How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

No, fills do not need to be exactly three sentences! It's more of a guideline. Please abuse grammar and punctuation as much as desired.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

There were some benefits to being a woman, Touka discovers, allowing herself to go through the motions of the wedding pleasantly without showing her disgust and revulsion; marriage is not something she wants, but she can put up with it to achieve her goals.

Later - much later, to give the Uchiha clan time to trust her, at least a little - after she has established herself as Madara's wife and a decent, if reluctant, cook, she uses her languishing ninja skills to sneak out to the forest and bring back an armful of mushrooms; they're Hashirama's favorite, after all, so they're plentiful in the forest and she is well used to preparing them.

If some of the mushrooms that make it into Madara's stew are deathcaps, and Touka happens to never taste it... well, no one can prove anything.

Varice Kingsford isn't called 'the Lady' in whispers for nothing. Her place may be at His Majesty's left hand rather than his right - propriety must be observed - but she is feared nearly as much as Ozorne and Arram themselves.

After all, all the court and all the people know that if Lady Kingsford is countermanded at any turn in her path, the Emperor will gladly deal with the fools himself.

She is arrayed in jewel colours, nothing like the red robes she earned with her mastery. That same mastery by which she is never referred, the whole court having taken their cue from the imperial prince even before his ascension to the throne of Carthak.

There are jewels in her hair and her wrists and and on her neck, sets of distinct bangles and chains and heavy coronets to hold a Tusaini noblewoman's veil. They hold a queen's collection of rubies and diamonds and emeralds and more, some pieces of which were even gifts from Her Highness the Emperor's mother.

Opals, too, even the most prized black opals, meant for holding a mage's Gift, to store for later use or to link for another to draw on. But among her other blinding jewels, they do nearly blend in, hardly noticeable when hidden by tumbling hair or long sleeves.

Though her fashions are ever something to watch, it's her hands, sometimes gloved and sometimes be-ring'd, as she sweeps into the palace halls with dishes for His Majesty. They're said to be a poisoner's, after all.

Historical RPF (Friedrich II of Prussia/Peter Keith)

Too late Peter realizes that mentioning their shared past was a mistake, that more than ten years of separation had changed his beloved Prince in ways he couldn't even hope to predict; Friedrich's eyes - once bright and curious, desperate and defiant in turns - are guarded now, and sharp. Yes, Friedrich had remembered him and called him home from his exile, but even so, Peter is part of a past Friedrich doesn't much care to acknowledge these days.

After a while, Peter even understands the impulse, the vulnerability involved for a newly crowned King, but as he sits at home, unable to be helpful because Friedrich won't let him, he can't help thinking that the ban cast over them by the old King still lives on, even if the man who had spoken it had finally died.

Renly lies cold in the ground and his blood stains Loras’ hands as much as those of the sworn brothers whose lives he took; Loras, too, failed Renly, left him alone with his murderer, left him to die. Loras carries the weight of that with him to Bitterbridge, carries his rage and guilt and sorrow, carries them to his sister, to Renly’s widow, who holds him and cries and pretends her pain is for Renly but Loras knows the truth behind her tears.

It is only with Margaery breathing beside him, the scent of her hair and her skin filling the air, the warmth of her body against his, that Loras begins to feel as though the world might still go on.

The invitation to accompany Friedrich on his incognito trip to the Netherlands comes as a surprise: after years of being ignored, Peter hadn't dared to hope for anything anymore, had tried - and mostly succeeded - to be content with the life he had and not feel stung by Friedrich's rejection.

When he realizes where they are going, eerily close to the harried route he took a lifetime ago, he isn't sure if he cares for the re-enactment - nor if Friedrich, who is distant and cordial and brusque in seemingly unpredictable patterns, understands that this is what they are doing to begin with: retreading Peter's past, which should have been Friedrich's too and never got to be.

Travelling incognito on the other hand, without pursuers on their tail this time, is also an unexpected chance: the intimacy of their small party and the lack of etiquette required let him witness Friedrich closer than he has since they were young men, exchanging books and warmth during stolen moments, and he begins to see the beleaguered roads and fortified borders that led from the Friedrich of old to the King of now, suspicious and complicated and thorny, but still craving for things to feed both his mind and his heart.

He'd mostly been humoring Master Splinter when he agreed to try knitting, but his first project, in all its lumpy misshapen glory, lit something of a fire in him - it didn't hurt that he'd used his new boxing gloves to beat Mikey's ass. And hey, kept his hands warm.

So he started looking for new patterns, got his hands on some cheap yarn, and kept knitting. The results weren't exactly 'open an online shop' quality, but he wasn't gonna keep them in the lair, so once a month or so he swung by and stuffed his latest creation in the 'help the homeless' donation box at the local library. He kind of half expected them to just disappear down the memory hole of society, but once, checking in on Angel, he saw a van trundle up outside her apartment block and a couple with a kid emerge and start unloading a couple of suitcases. The man was wearing a knit hat with a distinct pattern, hexagonal shapes like a turtle shell; the little kid was clutching a little knitted turtle plushie.

...guess he had a lifelong hobby, he realized, seeing that.

Of course, if his brothers ever found out he was gonna have to murder them.

From atop the Giant's Lance she can take the falcon's view of her lands, tracing her life's path in the ridges and dips below - the high crag where the Stone Crows killed her father and brothers, just north of the river against whose banks she'd trapped her almost-usurper cousin and ended his ambitions, which tumbled into the lush green valley full of swaying wheat, where Jeyne could just barely see the small lake where she'd first promised Jessamyn her love.

The howling mountain winds wax and wane like the Vale itself is breathing, and when Jeyne breathes with them she can fancy that she and the very spirit of the Vale have become one.

The smallfolk cheer when she comes, they shout blessings and kneel before her and kiss her feet, and all Margaery has to do is throw them bread and apples and meet their eyes.

Cersei can barely contain her hatred as Tommen follows after her like a puppy, his eyes big, a blush in his cheeks when she smiles at him, and Margaery merely gives Cersei the same smile and her very sweetest words as Cersei fumes.

You must be better than them, Grandmother had told her, with her first husband a dead traitor and her father set on crowning her again, and so Margaery plays the game with smiles and sweetness and generosity, with gentle touches and low necklines; she makes them love her, and the ones who won’t, well, they will find it difficult to reach her through the army she has won for herself.
