How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

No, fills do not need to be exactly three sentences! It's more of a guideline. Please abuse grammar and punctuation as much as desired.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

A Dreamwidth account is not needed to participate. Anonymous prompts/fills are welcome, or you can use Open ID.

He admirably does not squirm, but still continues to sip his medicine at a pathetic rate, until Jyn takes pity on him and pours in a generous amount of honey.

"Finish it all now," she grumbles, and he swallows the still-bitter brew without complaint, its taste tempered only the kindness she tries to hide.

"I was just doing what I thought was best!" Ryu protested, pouting childishly as he paced across the hall; he paid no attention to his brothers scattering out of his path. "I thought I was-"

"Yes, well, don't think without assistance in future, mm?" Naoki said, smiling sharply at his idiot. "And if you ever try to part yourself from me again, I don't care what reason or how good you think it is. . ."

Ryu seized him around the waist, spilling apologies for those attempts and professing adoration as he hauled Naoki in tight against himself, and . . . Naoki gave him a few moments and one stroke of Naoki's fingers through his tousled hair, then twisted free of his hold and threw him to the floor. "Not in daylight, Ryu." he snapped, pushing Ryu away as he rose to his knees at Naoki's feet and yowled a pleading protest.

“You are melting,” she teases, gentle, when he insists on sitting with her in the world, even in high midsummer, though he bows to the sun’s power by coming only at night, when the day’s breath has cooled a fraction and heat no longer seats itself in shimmering waves, hovering over the endless fields.

“Would you rather I did not come?” he asks, fingers teasing through her hair, touches like cool water raining on the sticky skin at the nape of her neck.

She does not answer in words; only hums a bit, and settles herself in his lap, and brushes droplets from his face, her fingertips painting the column of her throat with their chill as his eyes drink her in, hungry.

Either people have completely forgotten what I look like, or they still expect to see a handsome young idiot rather than a tired, middle-aged man with graying hair and wrinkles."

He grinned at Cimorene and added, "Getting people to overlook you, on the other hand, takes a lot more work."

At first, only by following the fixed sightline of his baby sister Irina; she has never been any use at keeping secrets, and it’s no different now that her secrets are the tiny spirits of house and forest Vasya introduced them to, but eventually they become solid even to him, substantial and well fed on the old faith that fills their home.

So the day he opens the stove and the little man inside tugs at his sleeve, Alyosha isn’t surprised, doesn’t jerk back and burn himself on the hot metal, but only listens instead as the chyert tells him, “My Lady said she’s coming to visit, and to meet her at Midnight,” and somehow, he knows exactly who to expect.

There was never anything sane about Korea, about the war, about anything he found himself doing once he went to the 4077th, and yet Charles found himself considering life on the other side with distaste. There was an odor clinging to Boston polite society now, one that made his stomach churn, and his heart to ache as his peers mingled to mutual advantage in ignorance of reality. His entire existence had been upended, and somehow, he'd found his previous life was just as insane in different ways from the hell he had escaped.

Her fingers aren't shaking, but Margaret is frustrated as she stares at herself in the mirror; she needs to look perfect for this, and she simply can't get it right! She closes her eyes, reminding herself that one interview is not the worst thing she's been faced with; almost unbidden, she remembers Klinger's advice to her on her wedding day, his hands steady as he and Kellye dressed her hair and did her makeup.

When her eyes open again, she smiles a little, and then follows the advice, knowing it will work; she's Margaret Hoolihan, and there's very little she can't accomplish.

The first snowflakes kiss her upturned face, and Vasya laughs, each icy pinprick a brush of his lips against her skin.

“Aunt Vasya loves winter very much,” Marya says, dubious, watching from her mother’s side as Vasya whirls through the falling snow in their courtyard, hands outstretched as though holding fast to another, feet sure and certain on the frozen ground.

“More than is good for her,” Olga says, and turns away with a sigh, but Marya stays, squinting through the blur of white; if she looks hard enough, at just the right angle, sometimes she can catch him, the quicksilver figure carved from ice, dancing hand in hand with Vasya, wild as the winter’s winds.

The clouds dance through a high, clear sky, empty but for their scuttling forms, sheep-white blots and wisps thin as silken veils; in the clearing, Vasya lays in a bed of pine needles and stares up at them, dreaming.

She sleeps there after a time, Solovey’s tail swishing as he keeps watch, and does not wake until the sound of hooves approaches, and with it a chill, and the gathering dark, sweeping over the little clearing in a blanket, the first flowers of frost shyly touching summer’s green.

“Did no one warn you of strange men who might happen upon an unwary girl in the woods?” Morozko asks her, slipping from the mare’s saddle, but Vasya only puts her tongue out at him, responding, “But I am not unwary, and you are not strange,” before stepping into the shadow of his arms.

He is cold, yes, his skin burning over hers like the bite of frost, trails of ice run in chills down her body, from clavicle and ribs to hipbone and back.

And hard too, hard and unyielding as the ice hidden just beneath the snow, deep and solid as the freeze in the clear lakes, carved like marble for the pliant warmth of her body to bend against, to shape herself around him.

And yet - at his touch, she burns from within, built to a blazing fever pitch by the cold and dark in him.

Edmund's usual carrel is empty but for a sheet of paper under an empty inkwell, and Caspian reads the hastily scribbled note: time for a study break, meet me in my room and bring the ropes.

Well, Caspian supposes the thesis can wait a few more hours.

Her lake was blue, once -- first the clear, cold, pure blue of a mountain sky reflected off granite bedrock, with no plants or animals to interrupt the light's path. Then it was the softer blue of living waters, as lichens and mosses leached nutrients from her shores; weeds and algae bloomed in the shallows; insects came to skim the surface; and fish, amphibians, and birds came to eat the insects, the weeds, and each other.

Now her lake is green, swampy with the explosive growth caused by nitrogen and phosphorous runoff and warming climes, and she fears the day that decaying algal mats will consume all the oxygen and leave her waters dark and dead: goddess of the black lake, where hopes come to drown.

Edmund was the only one Susan can tolerate talking about Narnia, anymore.

"I wish we could go home," he tells her one night as he holds her in his arms, and she knows that he's talking about Cair Paravel.

"I know," Susan whispers. It's the closest she'll get to acknowledging Narnia out loud again. She turns her head towards him, and kisses him softly. This is as close as they'll get to Narnia again, lying with each other like this.

Rei knows flame - she tends it in the temple, seeks glimpses of the future in it, carries it behind her eyes. She knows to respect it, but she has never feared it.

And now and then, when the power of Mars is at its height and she's feeling brave, she can reach out and hold the flame in her hand, and it flickers caressingly along her skin like a lover's tongue.

Susan may have a torn uniform and mud on her face, but Patricia Oxley is cowering on the ground with a black eye and a bleeding lip. Susan gapes at her sister, who does not at all look capable of defeating a bully twice her size, but people are forever underestimating Lucy Pevensie.

"If you touch my sister again, you'll get worse than this," Lucy promises as Susan tries to shepherd them from the scene, not sure whether to say thank you or you can't do that here or I could've done that too, I just chose not to, not sure if Lucy would even understand.
