Caspian doesn’t quite know what to think of these kings and queens of old.

To the casual observer they seem like ordinary children, look a little closer and you see their royal nature shine out – a gaze that is a little to knowing, a bearing a little too proud, and their words too self-assured, too definite, like they could never imagine anyone questioning them – but this is not what truly disquiets him.

Because their royal bearing, though no less real for it, hides something else, something that is only unleashed in the tensest, most high-stake situation, something feral: it is a too-wide, almost vulpine grin on Edmund face, or little Lucy barely suppressing a snarl, it is the ferocious way Peter beats at his enemies, not stopping until they are broken mess on the ground, and the way Susan stalks instead of walks, like she is always looking for her next prey- sometimes Caspian pities Miraz, for he shivers at the thought of being their enemy.

Yessssss, I love the feral Pevensies so much!! The way you describe their animalistic characteristics is so good, especially Ed and Susan (of course I think that lol). The way Caspian sees both sides of them and knows enough to fear the more Narnian side more is so so good, ugh. More like this, please!!

Ooo, yesss~ I love the feral, wild edge to them perhaps not quite immediately obvious but never quite gone either. *chinhands*

Ahh this is so good and so savage and just perfect for the prompt.

For the most part, when they return to the world of their birth, they are thought to be too adult, too mature, too put together, too regal. But then they bare their teeth as they warn a bully off a younger child or wrestle a friend to the ground just a little too much like a predator and someone laughs awkwardly and asks if they were raised by wolves. They grin at that, eyes too bright, teeth too sharp, body too poised, and answer "not just Wolves."

Ha! A good answer, of course. I like that they're using their feral-ness to ward off bullies and help smaller kids; it feels right, especially for Ed.

The Mandalorian, Din/Bo-Katan, baby, it’s too hard/i’m too scarred for this to work again/but you know i still wake up with you every morning/like we’re still dead

The first morning he wakes up and they're still in bed together, he freezes, not sure what to do, not sure what to say or how to move. The helmet is watching him from across the room, the soft hitch of her breath nearby half asleep half waking an odd vulnerability to be listening to, somehow different from his hands and mouth on her because that's something she'd asked him for, had shown him how to do, had -

His mouth is dry as he starts to move, and he can hear her breathing shift into awake as he puts the helmet back on, knows that she's been lying there waiting for him to leave.

Ooooooh, okay first of all I LOVE how this one follows my own fill, with that thread of the helmet watching them like some kind of judge. OF COURSE Din is weird about intimacy and whether he has permission or the right to be experiencing the things he is, and of course Bo-Katan is no better and would rather wait for him to leave than actually have to do something as awful as face the person she slept with and maybe TALK to them. Gross.

if she TALKS TO HIM in the MORNING after having spent the entire night sleeping next to him???

ATLA, Yue, fate

"It's my fate," Yue says as she reaches for the dying fish in the firebender's hands, pulling away from Sokka, and condemning her flesh to save the world.

"It's your fate," Yue says as she sends a wave to wash Aang to safety and onward to his mission to save the world.

Fate; it's a heavy word for a heavy burden. Centuries fly by and even if she is a goddess, she still kneels to fate time and again.

But one day, she feels something change in the world, just a small shift, but when she looks, she feels the return of a soul she has not felt in ages. She sees Sokka again, but he is not Sokka--he is new, he is reborn.

He is dying. It is his fate.

Yue looks at the baby who is not her Sokka, but then maybe one day he will be someone Sokka, and her decision is already made.

In the moonlight, she puts a hand on the forehead of the tiny babe and whispers "this is not your fate" before vanishing. In the morning, his parents will find him well and squalling, his hair snow white.

Oh, lovely! Now I want to know more of this Sokka. O_o

I'm thinking it's a cyberpunk-verse and because of the whole 'friends in a past life might become friends in a new life' I believe this new not-Sokka is going to befriend the avatar and go adventures. Except this time, maybe he gets moon powers (the idea of *Sokka* with powers is hilarious) or Yue goes out of her way to look after him.

It could be fun!

OMG yes I love this. Sokka with powers (and of course they would be weird moon powers, and no one knows quite what to make of them, I suspect not even him), especially in a cyberpunk world, is hilarious

His life as a knight shattered too when he discovered Glen's mangled body, and out of the wreckage came a dark avenger, a madman, a beast who forswore rest and food and indeed all humanity until he found the dastard responsible and broke their bones as surely as they had his brother's.

"What will you do now?" the princess asks as they stare together at Valter's corpse, Cormag waiting, wondering when it will be that the spark of life will restart in his heart now that he's done the deed and slain Glen's murderer.

"Now I rebuild," he says, but even then the words ring hollow against the howling cry for death! death! death!

"Come, Glen, try again," Cormag says patiently, folding his arms as his brother sighs and strives once more to lever himself from the wheeled chair and stand on his own two feet, leaning heavily on two crutches.

Glen makes it two steps forward on shaky legs, then crashes to the ground in a flurry of curses, his face darkening in either frustration or embarrassment—more likely a mixture of both, even though all who see him continually reassure him that his very life is miracle enough, given the fall he took when Valter threw him from the sky.

"That was one more than the last," Cormag says as he reaches down and hoists Glen up, and it's more than enough, he wants to say, to counter his brother's groundless shame; it's something to build upon.

Ooooh, two fills! :D

The first one is so sad, and ouch at wondering when it will be that the spark of life will restart in his heart now that he's done the deed and slain Glen's murderer. and the way he himself doesn't believe in the rebuilding. ;_;

And then the sweetness in the second, Cormag's own patience and optimism, and Glen trying ("one more than the last"). <3 It's such a sweet AU, especially in contrast to the first fill!

There were quite a few people milling about (well, shuffling and slumping and slouching into chairs that creaked annoyingly with every movement), some of them even digging into the snacks laid out on one table (a few with a curse or complaint about they hadn't seen that particular dish in centuries, or for how long it had been since they'd eaten), some even seemed to not be injured.

Peter Pevensie slumped into a chair with a plate of something edible, and looked around, spotting more than one familiar face amongst the lot (an elder Caspian had given him a tired wave, and that General from the SGC had tried again to recruit Peter and his siblings for his project back in the past, though Pete wasn't sure how that would work); he gave a half-hearted nod to President Romana, who reminded him far too much of Susan (he wondered if he had dirt on his nose).

"If we're all here," Nick Fury finally said; he'd been nominated sometime in the distant past to take charge, though he'd complained a lot--he pointed at someone whom Peter didn't recognize, and snapped, "You're new. You first."

poor Nick, I don't blame him for complaining, he can't get a break. XD

Irritably, Izuna stalks through the kitchen, methodically searching through every cupboard for every last tin of tea and making sure to check for hidden backs and false bottoms as he goes. Tobirama has ticked him off for the last time this week, and Izuna's going to make his life as miserable as possible without actually, you know, threatening the physical or political integrity of the village.

Tea makes everything better, and Izuna is going to make sure Tobirama has not a damn leaf of it.

Izuna. :0 Brat indeed. Also Tobi might not risk such things or go over the top but if it were me, I might get murderous over such an affront of an attack. XP

Of course! I have to say, I like Izuna as something of a spymaster of the Founders, enjoying being underestimated when held against Madara, Hashirama, Tobirama, even Mito, but using his intelligence and sneakiness out of (almost) everyone's view and knowledge. ;)

Words were hard, sometimes, especially when it came to emotions; any Uchiha could tell you that, if they told you anything without their highly nuanced "hn" system. So instead of saying those three little words - so simple but so hard to get out of his throat - Madara turned to actions when he wanted to show his care, and the small ritual of brewing a pot of tea came easily.

He set the pot down on the one free corner of Tobirama's desk, poured the first cup for him, and set it next to his love's hand; Tobirama, as tight-lipped as Madara himself, thanked him with a small smile and a kiss.

When they'd been young (so young and blissfully innocent of the darker things in the world), Mina and Lucy had treated the insignificant hurts of adolescence with cups of tea. They would sit down, each with a cup of tea, and by the time they had both drained their cups, they were happy and smiling again.

After everything, when they finally have time to rest and to think and Mina is finally hit by the loss of Lucy, Jonathan slides a cup of tea across the table to her (she loves this ever-kind man, loves him with everything she has), and Mina can only muster a tiny smile, blurred by tears, grateful but ever so tired.

Melissa rubbed her head and stared at the textbooks in front of her, pages of diagrams and medical terms swimming together. She'd forgotten how hard studying was, even when it was the same field she'd been working in her entire adult life.

A mug of steaming lavender tea landed on the table near her notes, and a kiss landed in her hair. "You look like you could use this."

She looked up from her books to smile at John. "The tea or the kiss?"

He tipped his head side to side, like he was considering. "Hm. Both?"

However she was now faced with her Headmistress, two Senior Mistresses, Matron and the so often self-proclaimed founding stone of the school Joey Bettany Maynard. All of them purple of face, sprawled in a ghastly and appallingly unladylike manner over their armchairs and... well, Mary-Lou wasn't an expert on dead bodies, being a properly brought up young lady. She had never seen such a sight before. But at this minute she was absolutely, definitely, completely certain that these were five purple, sprawled and dead bodies.

"Miss Cochrane, this is awful! What will we do? Who could possibly have done this?"

The other founding stone of the School gazed at Mary-Lou with hooded eyes and a calm - no, it couldn't be! an almost contented - look on her face. "I'm sure I don't know, Mary-Lou," she said as she poured from the delicate, flower-bedecked china teapot into two cups, and held one out with a smile, though for some reason she didn't touch her own.

"Here, this will help."

Mary-Lou was affronted. "Tea? Miss Cochrane, at a time like this, you think we should have tea?"

"Of course. Wasn't it Joey," her eyes flicking to their mutual and now ex-friend, and the smile grew, "who always said, every time she butted in, that listening to her endless advice over endless cups would make it all better? Her very last words were 'make the tea, Grizel, and we'll tell you again just what you should do'." She sighed. "Joey had such great faith in butting in, doing things her way... and in tea making everything better."

"This. Is. Not. Better!"

Grizel cocked her head, and spoke very, very softly. "Isn't it?"

It had almost been easier (although Romana didn’t let herself admit it) when the Doctor was safely trapped forever in another universe and/or probably dead. The Lady President could reasonably afford to keep just a corner of one heart in mourning for a reckless renegade who’d been wrapped up in some human girl, anyway, when she’d last seen him. It was so much harder to keep her hearts safely cold and her mind fixed on the good of Gallifrey now that he was in front of her, tired, lonely and alive, pleading, “Come away with me?”

Oh, Romana. This is such a lovely melancholy.

“You’re gripping the hilt wrong,” Aravis said, lowering her swords and studying Cor as he stumbled away from her attack and wiped at the sweat trickling down his forehead, and she added, “Don’t hold the hilt so tightly; keep your thumbs on the top of the hilt and keep your arms loose and flexible—here, like this.”

She moved to stand next to him, her shoulder brushing against his as she demonstrated with one of her own swords how he should hold his, and he watched her carefully and corrected his grip; then they resumed their stances opposite each other, Aravis circling him slowly until she struck in a sudden flash of arcing steel and disarmed him with a scissoring twist of her blades, and his sword clattered to the ground as he fell to his knees before her, her swords crossed at his bare throat.

He looked up at her with naked awe, and something tugged in her stomach in response; in an instant, her eyes wide in realization and dread filling the pit of her stomach, Aravis smothered the feeling and quickly stepped back, her voice brusque as she said, “Try again,” gesturing for him to pick up his forgotten sword—but as they continued to practice, try as she might to forget the moment, her mind was fixed on his arrested expression and her parries were distracted, until Cor at last knocked one of her swords from her hand with a shout of exultant surprise, and Aravis grit her teeth and groaned inwardly; Cor would be insufferable for at least the next three days now, and the only thing she could blame for it were her meddlesome feelings.

"Alucard," Sypha asked, "do you know why I just saw Trevor sprinting out of town at full speed? Is there a new threat?"

Alucard filleted his catch for the day with considerably more force than it required, especially considering his supernatural strength. "I don't know why you think I would know. Belmont's ways are both idiotic and inscrutable to any but him."

Sypha glanced at Greta, who was chopping vegetables and also eyeing Alucard's knifework judgmentally.

"It's entirely possible that Belmont may have let slip that he has feelings for our resident vampire here," Greta said, the glee in her voice scarcely contained. "Feelings of the tender variety. And then he legged it soon as he realized what he said."

"He is an imbecile," Alucard muttered.

"Mm-hmm." Sypha raised an eyebrow. "So are you going after him, or...?"

Another mostly unmangled fish filet joined the growing pile. "If he wants to hear my response, he can summon the fucking stones to stand in front of me long enough to do so."

That was his mistake, he would think later, seated between two of his fellow Knights in a secluded hot spring and reluctantly admitting that both Aymeric and Haurchefant were quite determined to be important to him, and that their determination was at least the equal of his.

The fear that he might not get there in time, buoyed up to near-panic levels by adrenaline, ebbed and washed away as the adrenaline did as well. In the quiet after the blast, Kururu and Saburo both looked up at the night sky, studded with stars and glittering with the rainbow remnants of the butterfly that had unfurled its wings and protected them both.

Saburo wasn’t apologizing for the things he’d said before, which was a relief, because quite frankly, Kururu didn’t want to talk about that. Didn’t want to talk about the fear, either, or what he’d just done; while he could easily have ribbed Saburo for the boy’s own awful choices in all this, he didn’t feel like doing that just now either. Instead, he sat there beside Saburo while the boy reclined back as he always did, resting on the sand with his head pillowed in his arms.

“Thank you.” When Kururu glanced over, he had to look away again almost immediately. That fear had gone but it had left his nerves scraped raw, and maybe that was why he was receiving Saburo’s signal so strongly. The smile on the boy’s face and in his blue eyes was intolerable, forming knots in his chest and his gut both, and he couldn’t escape the smile in his damn voice. “Kururu.”

“Don’t mention it,” he muttered, voice smaller than he would have liked, and so he forced it flat when he added, “ever” and tried to tune out the waves of delight in Saburo’s laughter.

“I get to know you’re safe,” Allison says, and smiles, like that’s a good reason enough reason for her to frame Nick for Patty’s drug dealing so the cops don’t investigate her further; to keep her safe— Patty’s not used to this sort of caring from anyone, concern for her well-being, save sometimes Neil, if Kevin isn’t around. She feels like a lovesick high schooler now, as something in her chest flutters and she watches Allison the entire time she goes upstairs. Except she’s not a high schooler, she’s 33, and God, she can’t feel like this, not about Allison, things are already complicated enough—they’re planning to murder her husband, for Christ’s sake—without adding whatever nascent feelings she’s got into the mix.

Edgar and Celes exchanged a look before he frowned after the gentleman and his son leaving the auction house with their newly bought 1/1200 scale airship trailing behind them; how many could they possibly need and how many could the auction house possibly have?

The lady of the house stared in dismay as her husband and son entered with yet another of these model airships of theirs.

The boy looked on in pride as he followed his father into the room where their newest arrival joined the rest of the airship fleet helmed by imp dolls, and, looking up at his father, most earnestly asked, "Father, can we go back to the auction house?"

Brilliant.

Haitang did not think much of it when Yin An first brought home a girl and announced that her name was Lichun - after all, delusional as he might be about the extend of his handsomeness, what half-wealthy man in this Xin State did not have a concubine or two; Yin An was a prince, and Haitang was not so naive as to think he would remain loyal only to her.

But when Lichun was followed in rapid succession by Yushui, Chunfen, Guyu, Xiaoman, Mangzhong, Dashu, Xiaoshu, Bailu, Qiufen (his insistence on renaming them all after solar term ceased to be funny and already became exasperating by the time Yushui arrived), until their courtyard numbered 18 plus Haitang, Haitang found herself torn between fury towards Yin An for the astronomical level of entitlement that he displayed which surely surpassed even that of the Lord of Xin State himself, wonder that anyone could be so delusional as to sincerely believe a person as dim and uninteresting as he could make so many ladies fall in love with him, sorrow for the ladies themselves, and, deep in her heart, a selfish little comfort that they were here, accompanying her and making life with Yin An so much more interesting than Yin An himself could ever manage.

But she did not enjoy her solar sisters’ company so much that Haitang would wish this fate on any other innocent girl, and after Dongzhi, Haitang vowed to herself, there might be 24 solar periods in a year, but their band of sisterhood would never, never reach 24, and if Haitang had to play the jealous shrew, then so be it.

The drama is a satire, so it's poking fun at the multiple wives system in ancient China by having a dude literally trying to collect enough women to name them all after 24 solar/calender terms (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_term). But yes it is out of hand :D

It was only when Paradise Manor's collection of rare swords, sabers, and other sharp implements grew so extensive that one could have fought using multiple different weapons each day and still not run out for twenty years, that Yin Yu ventured to suggest that Chengzhu's armory seemed very complete.

"It isn't complete yet," Chengzhu declared with the fervor that always filled his voice when he spoke of Xie Lian. "It has to be worthy of His Highness--he has always loved swords."

"...I know we, as a clan, tend to take our rivalries a bit far..." Madara said slowly, squinting at the vast collection of kunai, senbon, and assorted other small weapons, "but this really takes the cake, Izuna."

Izuna sniffed, carefully sorting each weapon into piles based on type, condition, and age before wrapping them up in his new storage seals; occasionally he paused in his sorting to sharpen one. "Look, as much as I hate it, I know you're going to strong-arm us into peace with the bastards," he said, "and then I'll need something to hold over that white rat's head."

"Physics isn't real in the Medium -- none of those planets should have had normal gravity, the light sources don't make any sense, and let's not even get into how my shrinking powers worked -- so obviously the temperatures were all fake too," Jade said as she idly kicked her well-padded foot into Dave's shin; "Real ice and snow are terrible, and the minute we're organized enough to start a second town, you and me are moving to the equator where we don't need any of these workarounds to be warm."

Being grounded and unable to take off due to a snowstorm in St. Petersburg in December was a test of friendship and creativity both, as Cheng Xiao and Song Song wandered aimlessly around the airport looking for ways to kill time. Song Song, for some reason, had taken the blizzard outside as a cue to shop for overpriced airport merch sweaters for Xia Zhi and annoying Cheng Xiao in the process by holding up every specimen, each more expensive than the last, and asking if Cheng Xiao thought Xia Zhi would like this.

When Cheng Xiao finally abandoned Song Song in the shop to settle on a seat by their gate, to watch a flight attendant of another airline in the next gate over juggling a truly astonishing mountain of Toblerones, she wondered if by the time they were allowed to board their plane (whenever that was…), whether she’d have to recalculate the fuel requirements for the flight, as it was looking like Song Song was liable to buy out the whole shop’s inventory of expensive sweaters, thereby increasing the weight of the cargo on board by quite a bit.

Yuan Ying was full of marvelous ideas for improving Xin State in both society and court, and by virtue of being male and a prince (as Yuan Ying would often say with a roll of her eyes), Yin Zheng was tasked with carrying out Yuan Ying’s vision. As for Li Wei - now that there was Yuan Ying to carry out the diplomatic duties of being the lady of the house, Li Wei was free to make their inner courtyard into a warm and cosy home that welcomed Yin Zheng and Yuan Ying after a hard day of work.

They’re crouched beside a staircase that moved into place several minutes ago, and of course Luna has no watch and it’s a cloudy night, so she can’t be going by how high her namesake has risen, but rather seems to have heard whatever she was listening out for when she murmurs, “I think it’s time.” Ginny, who has been stewing over all the cruelties she’s witnessed here in Hogwarts only today, squeezes both her companions’ arms and reaches for her wand.
