How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

Narnia/ASOIAF, Susan Pevensie/Jon Snow, what was the name I called out in my dream?

Ghost has been dead these past three years, so when Jon dreams through wolf-eyes one cold night he doesn't know to whom they belong.

He trails a maiden with long black hair and a quiver of arrows at her back, never more than a few paces behind, and after a while he realizes he must be guarding her. The eyes are watchful, aware. They're stalking something, or rather she is.

When the wind shifts, she drops to a crouch behind a bent oak, and signals him to cross the shallow brook ahead for a flank. He feels the wolf grow uneasy as they lay in wait, more separated than he would like, until the moment his ears catch the draw of the bowstring, the whoosh of an arrow released.

He leaps back over the water to see the maiden rise up over her kill, graceful and solemn in victory. Their eyes meet. She is the most beautiful woman he's ever seen.

Jon wakes with a gasp in the black night, mind racing. He had felt the wolf call out -- not a bark or a howl, but a name -- he can't remember what, only that she answered.

Sleep never finds him again that night.

Peter wipes the blood off of his mouth, grins at the giant in front of him, and charges again.

Peter staggers, blade almost dropping out of numbed fingers from the blow, and then forces the smile back onto his face, pulls the shield closer and circles Miraz, watching for his opening.

Peter stumbles to a knee, forces himself back up, knuckles bloody and fists clenched, waits for the next chance he sees to put in his own blow.

As a child, there are certain truths that Edmund could not admit to--that he was frightened that the next falling bomb would be the one to kill him, that his father would never return from the battlefront, that he'd kissed James up the street and it was the sweetest thing he'd tasted--so he learned how to lie fast, if not well. It's a skill that serves him well even today--as spymaster, as a diplomat, as a politician.

Today, he looks Peridan in his eye and tells him that he's happy that he's found a good woman to marry, to run his lands, and bear him children. He waits until Peridan leaves, then locks the door, and dives for the bottle of brandy he's been saving for a special occasion. He wonders if his silver tongue is a boon or a curse and tries to drown the memories of a thousand little touches that left him burning and of a kiss that still keeps him warm at night.

“You’re angry,” Susan says, too soft, subdued, her voice drained of all the spark and charm confidence normally leant, and hearing it stirs some burning thing up inside him once more, a flare in that locked-up darkness.

“I’m not,” he responds, and glances up at her swift as a bird, huddled on the other side of their cabin, hugging her drawn-up knees like a wounded thing, “because anger is a useless thing that serves only to blind, leading reckless men to their deaths.”

Giving the edge of his blade a final stroke, he nods to himself and replaces the cork of the tiny vial, sheathing it, careful not to touch the edge; when he kisses his sister’s forehead, she does not flinch, only looks up at him with the world swimming in the blue of her eyes as he tells her, “What I am is vengeful, darling, and Rabadash shan’t get away with it.”

Lucy wondered as she sat beside Mr. Tumnus on the outskirts of the spring planting festival -- closer to the fires, the dancing had grown quite wild (Susan's hair whirled around her like a banner, and she caught a glimpse of Peter throwing an oread into the air), while under the boughs of the trees that had not chosen to edge toward human form and partake in the celebrations, assorted groups of revelers were laughing as they dashed away for more private merry-making.

"Water and light," Mr. Tumnus answered, "though sometimes during the revels they sample Lord Bacchus's wine -- I'm told he can conjure a special vintage for them, fermented from moonbeams alone with no need of vines or grapes to convert that light to substance."

Lucy tipped her head back to gaze at the moon, its waxing circle edging near to full, and imagined how the silver of its light would taste between her teeth, sweet and crisp and sharp, and how its juice might roll cool and brilliant down her throat.

It's a rickety old ride at the side of the road, its best days - and probably its last safety inspection - long gone, so Wilson has no idea how House convinced him to give it a try. He'll die soon enough, he thinks, frowning a little as he climbs into one of the worn seats and pulls the safety bar towards him with a worrying rattle, there's really no need to tempt fate this way.

But when they plummet down the not very steep first drop and he feels the wind ruffling his hair, hears House's quiet "whoop" next to him, he finds himself grinning in delight; fuck fate, anyway.

What she knows is the four hundred years of work ahead of them to plant a forest where a fiend once lived and the machine claiming that he will stay there to plant and water and weed and supervise the forest until it is completely grown and known as her forest.

She doesn't understand her part in the story Robo tells her, starting with an ancestor at the fall of a floating kingdom who kept a sapling alive through the generations and distributed the seeds to anyone who would take them, all the way to her, and through her, and for four hundred more years. This machine says he will take care of her forest while it grows until it can take care of itself, each day lived from beginning to end, and at the end, he says he will tell the story of her forest, giving the seeds of great action to anyone who will take them.

Yi Jung smiled as he bowed shallowly over a slender, graceful, delicately-manicured hand, drawing the girl close and tucking her hand in the crook of his elbow. It was easy, thoughtless . . . incredibly dull, to show her around the museum, to charm her, to respond to her own practised conversation. Yi Jung smiled and danced the familiar pattern without even the enjoyment that a passing game of fancy would have elicited, fingers flexing, wishing for something real to sink into, to be absorbed by.

Cass slips into Steph’s apartment through the window, worried about the blonde not going out for patrol for the past week and a half, only to find her, face down on the table and surround by plates and plates full of … waffles?

She tries to grab one when Jason stepped out of the kitchen, wielding a spatula like a sword, and growing a warning; “don’t touch, those are for emotional support.”

A laugh interrupts, Steph lifting her head, “apparently the pit removed his memories of Discowing and he’s appalled he referred to Dick as his brother yesterday,” and Cass smiles as Jason just grunts and stuffs a forkful into his mouth.

Izuna runs across the roofs, giggling as his brother yells his name.Tobirama keeps pace with him, steps soundless, but Izuna knows that his rival is just as amused as he is.

"Left?" Izuna suggests, and Tobirama nods.

"I'll be the decoy, your brother likes me less," the words are clipped, but the slap on his arm is friendly. "Good luck."

A shunshin and Tobirama becomes a blue streak, fading into the distance, while Izuna carefully tucks the tin of nii-san's favourite tea into his sleeve.

Being a little brother is great.

Having a collaborator is even better.

The children of Jedi were a rarity already, the children of a Jedi with enough power to light a sun nearly unheard of. Yet here they are: twins, mirrors of each other, born into a galaxy with no one to tell them what is impossible and with an inheritance of power that lets them make anything possible. They could burn the galaxy until there is nothing left but ash if they so desired, but power is not all they inherited, and they love justice and freedom and life, and their power is used to protect, not to burn.

He starts here: he kills one last person; he finishes the war; he leaves the Jedi Order; he returns home; he confronts his fear, himself.

He starts with an offering, laid at the feet of the village elders — potable water (for the living), tears (for the dead he never buried), his lightsaber (his life).

It isn't where he ends because there is no end, no final destination for him to land at, but it's where he starts and it's enough to make the Force swell inside him with the surety that this is balance.

Ankh stared out into the sky atop of collapsed building, it had been almost a year since the king returned, and since everything that happened that fateful day.

It might have been a year ago, but the pain was still so fresh, and so utterly raw that it still felt like it was yesterday. The grief was too much to bear at times, it continued to weigh on him. Eiji gave his life for his, yes Ankh was revived, but at what cost?

That idiot... What was the point of being in the tomorrow where they all were— if Eiji wasn't even there to share it?

Yuan Ying knew she was very lucky in her marriage. She would have preferred not to marry, of course, but she knew her husband felt the same way, which was a relief.

And, if she was being honest, it had been a while since she had last regretted her marriage. She would be glad to return to Jin State as a divorced woman, but this marriage had given her Li Wei, Yin Zheng, and the women of Delicacies of the Nine States. It'd taught her as much about herself as she'd taught Li Wei.

These were valuable things, and like anyone from Jin State she had a great appreciation for valuable things.

Kamila had fallen asleep, head pillowed in his lap and Alma had laid claim to his shoulder to join their daughter in sleep. Jowd leaned back against the couch cushions letting the TV noise wash over them.

It didn't matter if he couldn't move much or would stiffen up; to have all this now was worth it and so much more than he could ever hope to repay.

For weeks afterward, Steve's bed is rarely empty. Robin is almost always there, the two of them borderline co-dependent and only able to sleep with the other there, but the kids stay over sometimes and don't start in his bed, but frequently seek comfort after their own nightmares, crawling into the bed between Steve and Robin. Sometimes they don't even make it to the bed, the older and younger kids falling asleep in piles in front of the TV, Steve staying awake only long enough to throw blankets over them before finding a spot to burrow in and go to sleep himself.

Sakura dragged herself out of bed with a muttered curse; someone had better be dying, and even then- She lost her train of thought as she opened the door to reveal Naruto, downcast and blotchy, eyes red and face wet, arms curled around himself as though he were braced for a blow - or had already taken one.

"I- I had a talk with Sasuke," Naruto said, his voice raspy and weak, and more tears coursed down his face; his cheeks already looked a little raw from crying, "we're- we- we're not gonna be able to. . . It's not working. Not for a long time. And- I-"

Sakura opened her arms, pulling Naruto inside, hiding her cringe - half distress and half fury - in Naruto's hair as he buried his face against her shoulder, shaking.
