How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

No, fills do not need to be exactly three sentences! It's more of a guideline. Please abuse grammar and punctuation as much as desired.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

A Dreamwidth account is not needed to participate. Anonymous prompts/fills are welcome, or you can use Open ID.

Hecate finds the pup cowering under a bush; it's natural that she, of all people, were to find the dog. She is the one who travels the night, across all the crossroads and highways, with her own hounds trailing in her wake to herald her approach.

The pup hears her dogs and comes crawling out from the brambles, small and strange with its many heads weighing too heavily on its newborn legs to be supportable. He is a sad thing, small and thin, abandoned.

"Well now," Hecate says as she scoops him up, "I do believe someone's lost out on a very good puppy. You come with me, I know just the someone looking for a watchdog."

The three heads cock to the sides in multiple directions, the snake headed tails cautiously wagging.

Hecate smiles at him; Hades is going to love this one.

Belle was lounging on the beach reading a rather thrilling detective novel that she was fairly sure she'd already sussed out the end of when she heard a voice like the rustling of pages whisper "Leave your worries behind, and join me where you'll have to marry no man and can have your fill of ancient stories dredged from the deep." She tried to brush off the enormous request, but it wasn't speaking to the same conscious part of her as the book was--it was like it spoke directly to her fingers, which marked her page and set the book aside on the sand, and directly to her legs, which carried her to the edge of the sea and beyond, and directly to her heart, which thrummed with anticipation and simply believed without consulting her.

Mere minutes later, completely suspended in the buoyant saline, her lungs pulled in water that chilled her blood, suffusing her with a calm stillness, and her vision filled with a large, puffed-cheeked face bordered by decadent iridescent scales.

"C'mere, kid," Steve shifts so that Will can settle in next to him before continuing—if there's one of the kids who he thinks might understand, even just a little, it's this one.
"No, I'm not dating Robin, but everyone thinks I am because they can see that we're, like, life partners and all of that stuff that usually goes along with dating and we love each other a lot but would never want to date each other; Robin and I will always be together, so a lot of people are going to be confused for a long time, but as long as we have each other it will all be fine," he tries to explain and knows he's not being anywhere near as articulate as he would like to be, but Will nods and seems to be understanding some and that's good enough for Steve.

It catches at him as he tries to pull gently away, tries to slide from under her arm without waking her, but he’s never been quite able to manage the trick of it; not there, and not here either, clearly.

“Don’t go,” his sister’s sleepy voice murmurs, her fingers clinging to him too loosely to hold on, and if he pulls the covers high enough, he might pretend, with her dark hair tumbled over the white linens the same as always, that nothing has changed, that he can laugh and kiss her face, roll back into her arms and while a lazy morning away in perfect golden light.

But Finchly is not Narnia; downstairs, their door of their parents’ room clicks open, the kettle scraping on the stove, and he courts discovery if he lingers too long in Susan’s bed, a place where he musn’t be, not here and now; she recognizes it too, he knows, in the slide of her fingers from his arm, in the eyes she closes against the morning’s first light, resentful.

Tim knows he had coffee beans in here earlier during his multi-day, all-nighter, but now, seventy-three hours in, the beans have gone missing and Tim thinks he’s going to cry.

Dick finds him laying on the floor, muttering about unsolvable mysteries and thinks it’s a good thing Alfred decided to cut him off the coffee, at least until Tim takes a rest.

How the diplomats outside the cupboard door hadn't heard them already was beyond her, especially when he'd nearly rocked her forward so hard that she'd pop the door ajar. He'd given her a cheeky grin when she glanced back at him, mortified, but he had at least kept any more movements more gentle, less noticeable.

Maybe they're just deaf, she wanted to whisper back, but the skirts he'd rucked up around her hips rustled at another thrust and she had to all she could not to moan. Oh, Alsan, please just let them be deaf, or she had no idea how she was going to get out of this with dignity in tact.

It had taken them a while to defeat the witch and longer still to make Narnia their own, and then Archenland, Telmar, Calormen, until finally all the surrounding lands belonged to them as well. Of course, they had been children at the beginning, stupid and naïve, and it took time to learn to wield sword and dagger, to command armies, rule minds, and sharpen their every word and action to a deathly point, to eventually learn how to bend Narnia, itself, to their will (and by then, they had regretted so hastily killing the witch- she would have been more useful to them alive).

But after a couple of decades they had gotten… bored, bored of their unquestioned rule, bored of the fear and the awe and the lack of challenge- it had been a blessing, truly, when at last the Lion managed to force them out of his country and back into their own, and they would be sure not to waste it.

Not far enough away, not warm enough, not cold enough - they bicker endlessly over the small questions in a way that doesn't actually matter, that means nothing because it's just a means of making conversation that has nothing to do with the thing they're always circling around and never quite touching, the way a hawk and an eagle might circle a meal they both want to eat but neither know how to get to without actually confronting the other.

Long, they decide, long and far away. The waves against the bow of the ship are so familiar and so foreign that she can't even tell whether his hand in hers and his arm around her waist are one or the other as well.

Narnia, Any, Statues & you never forget

There is a marked lack of statues in Cair Paravel; dignitaries and visitors are always a little baffled by Narnia's aversion to sculptures, but the monarchs' smiles thin at such questions and conversation always changes fast when they come up.

To be fair, there were very few statues at all in Narnia after the Witch's reign ended; sure, there were some old ones still, but Jadis had taken a sick glee in destroying monuments to the past just so she could put some poor petrified soul up in the statue's place, as a warning to those who would disobey.

For people like Mister Tumnus, the loss of three dimensional art was more of a blessing than sorrow; after all, no one liked to be reminded of their limbs going stiff, the chill creeping through their chest, and finally their last breath before their lungs stopped working.
