How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

Notes & Rules

No, fills do not need to be exactly three sentences! It's more of a guideline. Please abuse grammar and punctuation as much as desired.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

A Dreamwidth account is not needed to participate. Anonymous prompts/fills are welcome, or you can use Open ID.

any, any, heat wave

Greek myth, Apollo-->Persephone+Artemis

Persephone sits in the icy mountain stream, it being too small to have gave birth to a deity which is great because the chill is the only thing keeping her from boiling alive, but refuses to leave the shade of the overhanging boughs from the nearby oak. The sun is beating down, straining to see around the leaves and branches, and oh, she can just feel Apollo craning his dumb head around to peep at her and the rest of the ladies that had dove into the water to escape his damn heat.

"If he thinks sitting in the same spot, cooking us alive, is going to get us to come out and flash our tits at him, I'll kill him myself," she announces and got a chorus of agreements in return.

Somewhere in one of the other shadows, Artemis sighs and stands up. Getting her bow from the grass and fishing an arrow out, she walks out from under the trees and shoots the arrow into the sky--Persephone smirks as they all heard a yelp from miles up. "Move it or lose the ability to have children, asshole!" Artemis shouts and time finally seems to start again as her brother scrambles to get back on his way.

It's a good thing Apollo had a twin because SOMEONE has to keep him in line when he does this stuff.

"Ugh, we're going to roast and get sand everywhere in this heat," Wolfwood grumbled as the train continued on across the surface.

"Yes, but there are some benefits, like a spectacular view," Vash said, pointing off into the distance.

"What are you—" Wolfwood started, before realizing that while Vash was pointing at the sky and the featureless horizon, there was also a group of women also on the deck, including the two insurance agents, who had shed their usual coverings for clothes meant for sunbathing. "—nice view, indeed."

Basking (or Broiling) (Sex Pistols; Yonekuni/Shiro)

". . .well I'm glad someone is enjoying this." Shiro said wryly, mopping sweat off his face as he closed the door behind himself; it had been broiling outside for days, but it was not actually any cooler inside the apartment.

Yonekuni moaned, stretching in a languid, powerful motion and watching Shiro from beneath his lashes; despite the way he was lounging all but bonelessly across the couch, he was very definitely not sleepy, it was clear.

Shiro swallowed, feeling another curl of heat, this one blooming from deep inside himself; Yonekuni lifted one hand, beckoning, and he went to his mate, thoughtless and eager, forgetting the misery of the heat wave.

The Fifth Season

When the first moon passes without rain, it's not even worth taking notice; late summer is hot as always in the Somidlats, and clouds are hardly even expected.

When the first report of a whole comm-village passing out of heat-exhaustion at once, even those at found at home where they ought to have been in the shade, arrives at the governor's offices, there are worries.

When the first crops begin to fail, a Fifth Season is declared: the Dry Season, it will be called.

And a bare half-year into the Season, when the comm-caches are being reevaluated, and they begin to find stores of food in states of dust, it's already too late.

Metal Gear, Big Boss & Kazuhira Miller

There was no sugarcoating this - Kaz did not look good.

Sweat pouring down his flushed red face, blonde clumps of hair sticking to his forehead, sweat stains growing under his arms and chest and thighs and just about everywhere skin touched skin as he heaves through their trek to society after the trusty Hummer broke down in the middle of the jungle.

It was a stark contrast to John who strides cooly as he lights another cigar, 95 Fahrenheit feeling more like 105 between the humidity and ass sweat - but John didn't care; so long as he got to say, "You think all the alcohol in that tequila evaporated off with this heat?"

Weather Talk (FFXIV, Haurchefant/WoL, SFW)

"Ul'dah gets nasty heat waves," Haurchefant's new friend had related during his last visit, resting in his bed after another enjoyable evening, "the kind that can roast a man alive if you aren't careful about where you rest or what you do."

He had chuckled at reading that, nestled in the crook of the Roegadyn's burly arm, pleasantly tired from their exertions; he couldn't help but laugh at the differences in their situation. "Perhaps if we could have a heat wave like that," he had said, "the chill that has fallen over this nation will at last be broken once and for all."

The Walking Dead, Daryl/Glenn

Daryl grumbles when Glenn suggests working on the veggie garden on the first day that the temperature hits triple digits. Then Glenn strips off his shirt and Daryl gets his first look at that lean, smooth torso; feels his mouth go dry when Glenn's back muscles flex with every heap of dirt he shovels. Yeah, Daryl reconsiders, workin' on the veggie patch is a damn fine idea.

The Folk of the Air, Jude/Cardan

As Jude kneels beside the river and dips her cupped hands into the cool water and brings them to her face, Cardan watches. His lips turn up at the corners as she sighs and a look of relief — however short lived it will be — washes over her face. Summer has been hotter than usual in faerie, and nights have offered no respite from the heat.

Without looking at him, Jude says, “We could always just spend a few days in the mortal realm, until the heatwave passes.”

“It’s just as hot there, if not worse.”

“At least they have air conditioning,” Jude points out as she rubs the back of her neck with cool, wet hands, not at all caring that the hem of her dress is soaking up water and mud. “What do you say? You could simply glamour some leaves into money and we can stay at a hotel and blast the air conditioner while ordering room service.”

She splashes water on her arms, up to the elbows and Cardan finally joins her, kneeling with far more grace than one has any right to when kneeling on a muddy riverbank. Jude has half a mind to shove Cardan into the water for no other reason than just that, but instead watches as he brings water to his face and runs his wet hands through his hair. He catches her eye, of course he does, and smirks at her.

That’s it, Jude thinks and, with a smile more innocent than she should ever wear being Cardan’s only warning, she shoves him and sends him toppling into the water face first.

When Cardan emerges from the water he’s sputtering, his tail switching back and forth and there’s some moss stuck to the tip of it. “And here I was just about to agree to your plan to go to the mortal realm with you for a few days.”

“We can still go,” Jude snorts with laughter, “the really nice hotels have huge bathtubs you can clean up in.”

“We can still go, yes,” Cardan says as he looks her over and it’s the lilt of his voice that gives him away, but Jude isn’t fast enough and Cardan grabs her by the hand and pulls her into the water with a laugh of his own, “if you join me, that is.”

Naruto, Kakuzu/Hidan

It wasn’t as if he had never seen the man without his mask and hood on before, but there was something about way Kakuzu had taken it off and sighed in relief as the cool night air hit his skin, the way he had shucked off his cloak next and let it fall in a heap on the ground had Hidan held rapt.

Their eyes met and instead of looking away like he should have had he an ounce of shame, Hidan only became bolder, letting his gaze follow the sweat that dripped down Kakuzu’s throat until it disappeared beneath his shirt — the shirt that was being pulled up and over his partner’s head.

Hidan would have liked to have followed the trail of sweat with his tongue despite the fact he typically hated both the taste and smell of it, especially after a long day of travelling, and blamed it all on the insufferable heat for turning his brain to mush.
