2023 Three Sentence Ficathon - Post #1

Welcome to the 2023 Three Sentence Ficathon!

This post will remain open for new prompts until we hit 4000 comments, at which point we'll open a new one to avoid captcha as long as possible. New fills and comments on fills will always be welcome.

How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

A Dreamwidth account is not needed to participate. Anonymous prompts/fills are welcome, or you can use Open ID.

any, any, came back wrong

There is something strange about Debbie Addams (nee Jellinsky and a whole host of other surnames), her old neighbors claimed. Maybe the lost of that extravagant mansion did a number on her, but a few weeks after the explosion, she and her husband and his entire family (there was a lot and the cops got many calls to pick up the "circus freaks" cluttering up the street) showed back up and looked at the damage.

Many of those neighbors would have imagined melodramatic wailing, shrieks, or at least a bunch of angry telephone calls to insurance agencies to try and make a claim.

Instead, she just stood in front of the (admittedly impressive) wreckage and made a disgruntled noise deep in her throat. "Damn. I was still paying on that chandelier."

"We'll get a new one," her husband promised in the same fawning tone, so at least the neighbors would know he was fine, even if he was back in his shabby dark coat. At his words, his brother and sister-in-law shared a look, but Debbie only sighed.

"I really can't kill any of you assholes, can I?"

"Nope!" Fester answered, pressing a kiss to her knuckles.

Debbie stood there, expression unreadable to all that could have seen her while the extended Addams clan dug around in the ashes, pulling up twisted hunks of rebar and melted glass to "ooh" and "aah" over the frightening new shapes. Maybe if someone had asked, Debbie would have said she felt a really kinship to those broken pieces of her once glamorous home.

After a moment, however, Debbie tossed her arms in the air and turned around. "Forget it," she said and pointed at Fester. "You're buying me a condo." When he cheerfully agreed, she shrugged and slapped his ass with a shout of "well, get to it!"

Yes, something strange had come over Debbie, but she didn't seem any the worse for it.

Oh this is fantastic!

“I’m telling you, Tucker, something’s wrong with him now--didn’t you see what he did to--shh, he’s coming, act natural.”

A moment later, a bony hand slides over Tucker’s shoulder and grips tight; the chill seeps through Tucker’s layered t-shirts and sends a shiver all the way down his spine.

“What’s up, guys?” asks Danny, with a grin a little too wide to be real.

Everyone had tried to tell him that there was no hope; Sayid had not been the same since the Man in Black brought him back, he may be physically there in body but was emotionally dead.

Yet Desmond saw that spark of Sayid’s old feelings for him as their eyes met once again, as Sayid knew he was unable to pull the trigger as the Man in Black had requested. In that moment, Desmond knew there was hope after all, that he would be able to get through to Sayid.

She opens her mouth to speak to her friends, who surely must be worried and thinking she had died. Something pops alarmingly in her jaw.

"What's wrong?" she asks, but the words are skewed as her mouth deforms, and her friends look at her in horror.

"What is it?" Minato asked, soft with concern, peering through the shadowy room. "Kakashi, let me-"

"I miss Dad;" Kakashi said, hands raised high, "Mama could do it . . . so can I." The shape he knelt before resolved into a body that's a body who has he got who is he about to kill he has the Edo Tensei how an instant before Kakashi brought down the kunai and scroll in his clasped hands, and the body - Minato couldn't see who it was - arched and writhed, screaming.

He stalks past Hypnos without a word, sneers silently as Hades berates him, and looks through Dusa like she's not even there. Achilles has his suspicions right away, but when Cerberus starts growling at the prince, he knows something is wrong with Zagreus.

Hades won't hear him, but Megaera and Thanatos - they've noticed too, and before long all three are venturing into Tartarus without their Lord's permission, searching for any hint of the real Zagreus.

Oh wow! This is chilling!

People had been telling Asha that Theon was dead for years now, her mother with tears in her eyes and her father with the promise of her crown, but lately he just kept coming back. The first time it was with fancy clothes, an annoying smirk, and a stupid Northern accent, her shy brother long gone, and here he was again before her now, a ragged scarecrow with shattered teeth and madness in his eyes. They say what is dead can never die, rising up harder and stronger, but, as far as Asha could tell, Theon just came back wrong.

Oh, ow. This hits hard.

Jiang Yanli is still sweet and kind, though she no longer speaks and her mouth is too stiff to smile. She spends hours in the kitchen making pork rib and lotus root soup or steamed lotus buns; everything she makes tastes subtly wrong, but Jiang Cheng eats it anyway, every drop and every crumb.

Of course Wei Wuxian would do something like this, he thinks bitterly, and leave other people to pick up the pieces; but at least this way, he has one person who will never leave him.

I really enjoyed this fill! It feels very in character for all three of them <3

The Corpsewitch rests her hand against his naked and clammy chest and hardly cares that his eyes are a pitless black, much like the icy depths of the darkest of waters. All that matters is the shape of his smile, the way the corner of his lip curves upward as he reaches out to clumsily rest his hand on top of hers. Her heart races excitedly in her chest; she’s pulled him from the darkest depths of death and restored him back to life.

"Matthias," Nina says quietly as she smiles wetly. She ignores the tears that warm her frozen cheeks as he lies enveloped in the gentle embrace of the snow. He removes his hand from hers to cup her face, and while his eyes aren’t the endless blue sea she’d loved diving into, she knows she can fix it with time.

This is so perfectly creepy! I love all the descriptions of how visibly wrong Matthias is, and how Nina fully acknowledges that but doesn't care because she finally has what she wants, even if he isn't the same.

He isn't the boy Nihuang loved, the boy Jingyan trusted. He's the kind of man Nihuang doesn't and shouldn't love, that Jingyan doesn't and shouldn't trust.

Somehow, despite this, he still gets to brush blossoms off of Duchess Mu's hair, gets to advise Prince Jing as he strives for the throne.

And ever since Mei Changsu has come to Jinling, the ghost of Lin Shu has haunted him as strongly as it haunts the people he left behind.

Before, Church’s mind was filled with the day-to-day minutiae of being a housecat: scraps of food dropped under the kitchen table, Ellie slipping him pieces of cheese, Gage pulling his tail.

A nap on the couch, a nap on the bed, a nap by the fireplace.

Now, however, something dark calls to his blood, blocking out everything of his former life…and it requires a blood sacrifice of its own.

Pit madness may have affected all of them, but Dick was special; Dick was a multiversal constant.

The thing that returned from the Pit was not their loving, smiling oldest brother, despite the outward appearance.

Still, none of them had the heart to put it down for good.
