"No! No!" Mizuki shrieked, running the last few steps to the iron gate before her, but it was chained securely; tears ran down her face as she seized it, sinking to the dirt, yanking uselessly at the barred gate - keeping her from Adam, who was not even here to see her, to speak with her, to. . .
"My love," Adam murmured, a lilt that was almost his song - her song, the one that had woven through her very soul until they could be together again, and now he was leaving and Mizuki was being barred from following him - and he reached through the gate to cup her wet cheek, crouching on the other side of the iron bars, "you . . . must go back. Your life isn't yet done, as Mizuki." he said with a soft, sad smile.
"No. . ." Mizuki sobbed quietly, clinging to his hand, scrambling to her feet as he rose on the other side of the gate . . . on the other side . . . unreachable, "I want to go with you! I told you I would follow you anywhere," and she remembered the words both as Mizuki and Sayaka, and his surprised and adoring face when she had spoken them, "and I will! Let me through!" she cried, but the gates remained chained shut, and Adam now out of reach, waiting for her - waiting for her forever, she thought, a whisper through her mind carried on a love song - but unable to come back to her, as she could not go to him . . . not yet.
