This post will remain open for new prompts until we hit 4000 comments, at which point we'll open a new one to avoid captcha as long as possible. New fills and comments on fills will always be welcome.


How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

Notes & Rules

No, fills do not need to be exactly three sentences! It's more of a guideline. Please abuse grammar and punctuation as much as desired.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

A Dreamwidth account is not needed to participate. Anonymous prompts/fills are welcome, or you can use Open ID.

“What’s wrong with her?” the stranger dressed in all black asks, and her companion shushes her halfway through. She seems to have realized all of their voices on the rooftop here echo.

Juliette bends down to check on Cal, who attempts and fails to scramble away from her.

“She’s paralyzed because of my blood,” Juliette explains.

The stranger in all black—- Carmilla, the other one called her—-, says, indignantly, “That’s not how vampires work.”

Juliette has never had someone who doesn’t share her blood try to explain her own kind to her, and not quite sure how to react, she just shrugs and offers up, “Well, I’m a Legacy vampire?”

“Yeah, and I’m a giant black cat, cupcake.” Carmilla scoffs.

“Hey! I thought I was the only one you called cupcake!” The other girl says, and Carmilla turns to her.

“Yeah well, can you blame me, Laura? You and her practically look the same,” Carmilla jokes, and Juliette is struck too with their similarity when she meets Laura’s gaze, and she has the strange feeling it goes deeper than appearance. Then Laura laughs, and Carmilla laughs, and Juliette catches a flash of too-sharp teeth in Carmilla’s mouth and understands.

“Wait, YOU’RE the vampire?” Laura asks, and looks back and forth between Juliette and Cal: “I thought all vampires were mysterious and broody like, you know,” she jerks her head over at Carmilla.

“That’s not how vampires work,” says Juliette, “I mean, we’re all sorts of people.”

“Huh. So I guess that’s just Carmilla being Carmilla.”

Naruto, Kakuzu, Sasori, Hidan

Kakuzu lifts his eyes from the page he’s currently reading as he reaches for the cup of tea Sasori had set down for him before taking his place across the table, pencil tucked behind his ear and a tea cup of his own held between his hands to warm them. From another room the sounds of Hidan shouting and playing video games can be heard, thankfully muffled through a closed door. 

“You didn’t take him tea, did you?” Kakuzu asks as they hear him yelp in pain and curse.

“I did.” Sasori nods with an almost amused look on his face. “He always forgets about it and it goes cold, or he ends up breaking the nice tea cups and I know you don’t like things going to waste. So I used that metal travel cup we have. I suppose now… it’s gotten too hot for him.”

Love this narrative so much - her father's idea of sacrifice, and the similarities between the living and the dead, and Julie finding a way to get the things worth living for back again.

Miss Marple...

"So tell me," Miss Marple poured from the small, delicately patterned china teapot, one cup for her, one for her guest.

"When did you guess that your late husband poisoned his first wife?"

Her guest looked back at her with large, rapidly blinking, all too innocent eyes. "I have no idea what you mean, Miss Marple. Would my dear departed Albert do such an awful thing? Even to someone who drank coffee instead of tea, and preferred cats to dogs, and wore," with a not quite slight enough shudder, "trousers, of all things, to church?" She shook her head. "Who was so awful, really, but who was very, very rich?"

Miss Marple watched her from over the rim of her cup.

"As you are very very rich now, dear."

It would take time, but the truth would come out before the tea was cold.

I love how Hestia's domain makes it easier for the Pevensies to maintain emotional ties to Narnia even after they are forbidden to return.

White Tea (The Untamed, Nie Huaisang and Lan Xichen, postcanon)

They sit at either side of the small table, one watching the other whose eyes are closed and lips folded too tightly to pretend he believes himself to be alone.

Still alone.

Nie Huaisang, watching him, has not spoken yet. No one would have believed the Headshaker could stay silent so long, waiting in patience while the tea - aged Silver Needle white tea, Lan tea, subtle and delicious and a crime to waste - cools in the cup before him, but he learned patience over ten long years, stained bitter like stale tea gone bad.

Bitter like their friendship, their now bloodied brotherhood, the ghosts always around them, gone bad.

Maybe. And maybe not. Huaisang does not know, he is prepared to wait for er-ge to decide this, through however many visits it takes, however many cups, however many questions not asked and not answered.

He has outwaited wild birds for longer than this.

After what seems like an hour, or more, he watches as one long, pale hand reaches out - ah, good, this time it does not tremble even slightly, is stronger, is better maybe? - and flicks a tiny, delicate hint of qi over the cups, warming and refreshing them. The fingers settle around and raise the cup.

Lan Xichen, eyes still closed, pauses, waits.

Huaisang bends his head in acquiescence, takes up his cup, and drinks. He will take his leave soon, and er-ge can again be alone till next time. They will do this, a delicate ritual stained by grief and suspicion and rancour and old, old love, as many times as it takes for er-ge to speak, and he has no idea what er-ge will say, or what he will to drink the white tea, to listen, and maybe to speak.

It is er-ge's penance.

And his.

This fits the canon so much better than it has any right to, and I love the mix of humor and genuine poignancy (and your turns of phrase - "bubblegum barbed-velvet resistance" is especially excellent!).
