This post will remain open for new prompts until we hit 4000 comments, at which point we'll open a new one to avoid captcha as long as possible. New fills and comments on fills will always be welcome.


How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

Notes & Rules

No, fills do not need to be exactly three sentences! It's more of a guideline. Please abuse grammar and punctuation as much as desired.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

A Dreamwidth account is not needed to participate. Anonymous prompts/fills are welcome, or you can use Open ID.

Princesses Saving Themselves

The songbird that brought her the trinkets also showed her where the stones were uneven and could be used to climb. Even with Alexander's ring, knowing he was here, she planned how to escape, or failing that, how to seize the lamp. While it might be distasteful to order a jinn to destroy its former owner, the threat would be neutralized and she could them return her mind to solving the troubles of the islands around her.

“Lasaraleen, we are here to spy, not to seek husbands,” Aravis hissed, swatting at her friend, who had lowered her eyelashes at a young Tarkaan, who watched them with interest and looked to be on the verge of making his way over to them.

“But, darling, I can get information from him,” Lasaraleen protested, looking back at the Tarkaan as Aravis hauled her behind a column flanked with potted palms; frowning at Aravis, she said, “He wouldn’t be able to resist me; I even put on my special jasmine and lotus oil—the one I bought at the bazaar in Mezreel, you know; the bazaar there isn’t half so large as Tashbaan’s, but its oils and perfumes are positively unmatched—”

“Las,” Aravis said, grabbing her friend’s shoulders, “this is dreadfully important; we must get near the Tisroc and listen to his conversation, and we must not be seen doing so; and you must help me do it because you know the palace better than I do,” she said seriously, and with Lasaraleen’s sigh and resigned nod, they crept closer to the dais on which stood the Tisroc’s grand tent.

Aravis stood in the Tisroc’s throne room, ignoring the whispers that swirled thicker than a desert sandstorm—comments on her Northern dress, stiffer and darker than the vibrant silks of the court; her proud, noble bearing; her face that seemed so familiar; and her appearance on behalf of a barbarian country.

She lifted her chin and allowed her gaze to slowly sweep the room, looking pointedly at those who spoke behind their hands, until her gaze fell upon Ahoshta Tarkaan, seated in the Grand Vizier’s chair, below and to the right of the Tisroc’s throne, and she smiled in triumph as his eyes widened in recognition and he sputtered; keeping her gaze on him, she walked several paces forward, to the spot where the Tarkaan before her had slunk away in disgrace at having his request denied.

Bowing low before the Tisroc’s throne, she said, “I speak on behalf of King Lune of Archenland: Archenland is interested in expanding its trading routes and willing to forgive past grievances between Archenland and Calormen in the interest of establishing a trade route between Anvard and Tashbaan, conveying wood from Archenland’s forests and spices from Tashbaan's markets, if it pleases the Tisroc, may he live forever.”

". . .just like that?" Shiro asked uneasily; his mate's mother's bright smile didn't make him any more comfortable, even as she assured him she meant what she said.

"Surely you don't think I could possibly be unwelcoming to someone my son has chosen?" Makio asked, giving him a wounded look that didn't quite reach her glittering eyes; Shiro couldn't help but remember the way she had treated Norio-kun . . . and perhaps even worse, what she had tried with Kunimasa. "You'll be family!"

"Yes," Yonekuni said, startling Shiro, though he relaxed immediately, thoughtlessly, into the stroke of Yonekuni's hand over his back, "mine; stay the hell away from my wolf, mother."

A Kiss For Good Luck (Firefly, adult!River/Jayne)

Time was tough to figure out in the black, but Jayne knew for sure he had known the moonbrained girl for a good long while, seen her turn from a frightened girl genius to a kickass (and still genius) warrior woman, but hell, if he would ever understand River or be able to keep up with her crazy ways.

"What in the gorram hell was that for?" he asked, when she finally got done laying her lips on his, something he weren't quite willing to admit had given him a thrill.

River smirked as she gave her reply, proving to him she meant not a word of it; "Just a kiss for good luck," she insisted, moving to walk away, turning back at the last to add something Jayne could never argue with, not least 'cause she could read minds, "because she knows how much he wants to get lucky."

Soldiers of the Damned (MCU, Bucky/Nat)

"James, you don't have to do this; we can help you, it's not too late," Nat insisted, tears in her eyes, but stake also held firmly in hand, because she couldn't take any chances, not this time.

"It's not that simple, Natalia," he replied, shaking his head, lips pulling over fangs as he slowly smiled, "I've come too far, there's no going back for me - my life belongs to the darkness now."

"Then I guess I have no choice," said Nat, taking a deep breath to steel herself, letting the stake slip from her fingers and clatter to the ground, before reaching up to pull at her collar, exposing her neck; "Do it."

Thorin Corgishield stares at Thor with a look of befuddlement, obviously communicating, "If you wanted it, why did you throw it away?" He turns his back, showing off his magnificent brioche butt, and silently adds with a whiff of disdain as if the two-legged thing is too stupid to comprehend, "I herd you buffoon; if you want to play 'fetch,' send my imbecilic brother."

With a sigh at the obstinacy of his namesake, Thor finally releases his hold on the collar of the eagerly straining Labrador Retriever who surges forward and returns with a slime-coated Mjolnir for the inevitable tug of war game of "No give, only throw."
