That's it for the 2026 Three Sentence Ficathon! Thank you so much for joining us this year and sharing your enthusiasm and creativity.

We have, once again, surpassed last year. As of this post, there are over 19,000 prompts, fills, and comments. And, of course, though the 3SF is closed to new prompts, you can always fill and comment on the existing prompts, for 2026 and any other year. We get notifications of new fills and comments all the time!

You can also add your fills to the 2026 AO3 Collection if you like.

We thanked you all last year for sharing when "creativity, passion and connection are more important than ever." That was true even more this year. We'll be back! Ruth is especially really looking forward to retiring at the end of the year and celebrating with the 3SF 2027.

This year's 3SF will be closing around midnight Pacific time tomorrow night (realistically it'll be whenever your west coast mod feels like it, but no earlier than that), or a little less than 24 hours from the time of this post.

Get those last minute prompts in - Post 4 is still open and very active!

No time to fill right now? No problem, just squirrel some prompts away to fill at a later date, as we never close to fills. Nobody ask how many tabs the mod collective has open, please.

How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 15th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

Notes & Rules

No, fills do not need to be exactly three sentences! It's more of a guideline. Please abuse grammar and punctuation as much as desired.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

A Dreamwidth account is not needed to participate. Anonymous prompts/fills are welcome, or you can use Open ID. Using an account does make it easier to see people's responses to your fills though!

Cross-posting is encouraged; there is a 3SF Collection on AO3 if you'd like to post fills there as well.

Note that the comm is searchable if you're logged in! Tick the 'include comments' button when searching to easily find prompts for your chosen fandom/characters.

That's it for the 2025 Three Sentence Ficathon! Thank you so much for all your enthusiasm, creativity, and support, whether you were prompting, filling, commenting, or all three.

Every year, we on the mod team think it can't possibly grow any more or move any faster, and every year we turn out to be wrong. This year we had - for the first time! - four prompt posts with, as of this posting, nearly 19,000 comments. I'm not great at math, but that is a lot of sentences. And of course that number will only grow, as we encourage new fills and comments year-round! You can also add your fills to the AO3 Collection if you like.

We also have a new friending meme this year; if you'd like to find new people to follow both on and off DW, head on over here and check it out.

Thank you all again for a wonderful, inspiring year at a time when creativity, passion and connection are more important than ever.

3SF Friending Meme

Hello one and all! This year has surpassed last year somehow (kudos to everyone) and we thought as part of our closing rounds we'd do another friending meme for all, fresh faces and familiar recurring ones and everyone inbetween. We'll be closing this year's prompts admissions tomorrow, February 9th around midnight PST. As usual fills are open forever and always. Currently Post #4 is still open for prompts for around 33 hours or so as of this post going live.

If you would like to, copy past the text in the box below and fill out whichever parts of it you feel like - you're welcome to do as little of it or as much of it as you would like.

It's been a delight to have you all here, as always. This is a hard time of year for many people and we are always happy if this brings some joy and creative inspiration. We hope to see you all again next year (and even more people potentially)!

This is the last post of this year! It will remain open for prompts until approximately midnight PST Sunday, February 9th and is opening just a little early for one last week. Please continue to fill after we close to prompts for however long as you feel the urge (some folks have reported seeing fills on their prompts from last year and being delighted by it!). We are, as ever, delighted by the variety of fandoms, the joy, and the talent on display.

New and Updated Rules for 3SF 2025

As we get ready for the opening of 3SF 2025 on Friday, here are a few new and updated rules for this year to help make everyone's experience smoother and more enjoyable.

Prompt Spamming Reduction Guidelines

As we're all aware, 3SF is a high-volume event, one that's typically too big and moves too quickly for more than a very light touch by your mods. While we love enthusiastic participation and don't want to stifle that, we are instituting a new guideline this year regarding prompt spamming.

To keep the 3SF fun for everyone, we ask that you please limit the number of prompts you post at a time. We strongly suggest you post no more than 15-20 prompts at a time, and try to vary the fandoms you prompt. Once you’ve posted a batch of prompts, please allow multiple hours to pass for people to absorb and reply before posting more.

Update to Cross-Posting Guidelines

Cross-posting is and always has been encouraged in 3SF; we even have our own AO3 Collection for fills. However, we request that all fills first be posted as a comment reply to the prompt. Please do not respond to a prompt with nothing but a link to AO3 or another site.

Update to RPF Guidelines

RPF has always been and remains welcome in 3SF. However, we had to update our RPF guideline last year and want to be sure you know about the change. We ask you to please use discretion and good judgment when prompting or writing RPF fills. We ask that you not prompt/write figures such as 20th and 21st century dictators, willing participants in the Nazi regime, or figures known to be involved in sexual assault cases. We reserve the right to screen or delete prompts/fills at our discretion.

And that’s a wrap on 3SF 2024! Thanks to all our participants, whether you were prompting, filling, commenting or all three.

This year we had three posts, which is both thematically appropriate and one more than we’ve ever needed before; we adore your enthusiasm for the event, it’s great to see. As of this posting, we had nearly 14,000 comments worth of prompts, fills, and conversation. Amazing work, everyone. No doubt that number will grow with late fills, since there's no time limit on those; you can continue to fill to your heart's content.

We also have a friending meme with nearly 100 comments - it’s here if you missed it. If there’s someone whose presence you particularly enjoyed this year, head on over and see if they left a post!

We're approaching the end - the 2023 Three Sentence Ficathon will close to new prompts one week from today, on Sunday, February 12th. Get those last prompts in while you still can, or look for an existing prompt to fill!

There are some great prompts out there for Star Wars, Narnia, Critical Role, House of the Dragon, Stranger Things, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, hundreds of other fandoms and as many any, any prompts as your heart could desire.
