Welcome to the 2023 Three Sentence Ficathon!

This post will remain open for new prompts until we hit 4000 comments, at which point we'll open a new one to avoid captcha as long as possible. New fills and comments on fills will always be welcome.

How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

Notes & Rules

No, fills do not need to be exactly three sentences! It's more of a guideline. Please abuse grammar and punctuation as much as desired.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

A Dreamwidth account is not needed to participate. Anonymous prompts/fills are welcome, or you can use Open ID.

Any, any, bad luck

The hilarious thing is that once El is swept away to school, she's not the bad-luck magnet that she used to be. Among little baby wizards just like herself, there's nothing in particular to pick her out from a crowd, beyond the fact that she always stands alone within it. Oh, the mals are out for her blood just like anyone else's, but for once she's not an attention-grabbing black hole for her neighbours, or the schoolkid who gets strange bumps and bruises from the monsters no one else ever sees except her mother.

Of course, none of that stays true once she reaches senior year, but the anonymity was good while it lasted.

"That's terrible lock for youse," the weasel said, laughing and keeping his gun trained as Eddie held one half of a rope in his hands.

"Hey, Roger, what's the hardest part—" Eddie began.

The rest of the statement was left unsaid as the rope at the weasel"s feet ran out of play and hoisted the weasel rapidly into the air as the counterweight crashed to the factory floor.

". . .hey, you aren't hanging these upside-down any more." Oushou said, leaning out the window and flicking one of Shiro's teru teru bozu.

"What? Oh. Of course not," he shrugged, looking around for the book of Oushou's he . . . in theory had somewhere; he only vaguely remembered maybe borrowing it in the first place, "I wouldn't want to call the rain. Are you sure I have that book?"

"You certainly used to," Oushou said, with a last look at the teru teru bozu, then turned to Shiro with a grin, "maybe I just wanted to talk to you properly. We haven't spent time together in ages! Does that-"

"Your bad luck." Yonekuni interrupted from the doorway, voice low and - it took Shiro a moment to realise, turning happily towards his mate - furious.

Xanatos stared at the smoldering remains of his latest robot—it had burst into flames because of a misconfigured valve, the seventh in a row of his new robot line that had exploded, failed, or otherwise broken down because of sheer bad luck.

And his luck had only been this bad one time before.

"Owen," he called across the lab, "be on the lookout. I suspect Coyote—the trickster, not the robot—is paying us a visit."

"We," Obi-Wan muses from where he's leaning against the rough wall of the cave, "seem to have very bad luck."
Across from him, Cody turns a snort into a cough and Rex grins at him: "I don't know if it's bad luck, or just the fact that you and General Skywalker both have a habit of throwing yourselves into any and every situation you encounter."
Obi-Wan lifts his chin, putting on an air of haughtiness both for their amusement and to avoid actually having to respond to the accusation, and then looks down at the young man asleep with his head in Obi-Wan's lap and runs his fingers through Anakin's hair as they all settle back down to wait out the storm.

John isn't even a little bit surprised when the Guinness float explodes during the St. Patrick's Day parade. It's not even the first time he's made an arrest covered in beer suds and glitter, thanks to that time he worked the Pride March in '92. In fact, seeing Matt's T-shirt clinging to his body as he shakes beer out of his hair makes this pretty much a win-win situation, thank you very much.
