The hilarious thing is that once El is swept away to school, she's not the bad-luck magnet that she used to be. Among little baby wizards just like herself, there's nothing in particular to pick her out from a crowd, beyond the fact that she always stands alone within it. Oh, the mals are out for her blood just like anyone else's, but for once she's not an attention-grabbing black hole for her neighbours, or the schoolkid who gets strange bumps and bruises from the monsters no one else ever sees except her mother.

Of course, none of that stays true once she reaches senior year, but the anonymity was good while it lasted.
