They entertain themselves with a small magnetic goban on the train, because for them everything is go, always . . . until the full moon calls them, and they leave the game's microcosm behind, racing on swift paws.

Hikaru howls, calling his rival, his mate, his everything on to follow him, and Akira answers with a lower pitch of his own, leaping right past him and leaving him huffing and snapping, chasing after again himself.

This is the way it always between them - on the goban, in their furs beneath the moon, one light and one dark, sharing joy and battle and entire worlds built solely for the pair of them, understood by no other.
