"None?" her companion asks, Lucy's braid slipping from her fingers--it seemed that the violet tendrils that grew from her head were not hair and had enough feeling in that braids were a fascinating, if painful sounding, concept to her. "At all?"

Lucy paused, thinking it over. "Well, if there are any then they would have to be very good hiders to not have shown up before now. But I've certainly never met any mermaid or sea nymphs there."

The sea girl sat, wide. "None. No water folk whatsoever. I'd never thought such a place could exist."

"Oh, well," Lucy floundered anxiously. "Maybe there are! They just haven't shown up in... centuries."

"A world without sea folk would be..." she trailed off, slowly shifting until she could curl up against Lucy's side. "Your world. I want to find a way to go with you."

Lucy blinked as she tugged the girl over. "You don't mind a world where there aren't any sea nymphs or mermaids?"

"Such a world would be paradise."

This... this had to be another one of those things Lucy feared she wouldn't understand until she was told frankly what it meant, and to be completely honest, she had the feeling that maybe she didn't want to know what would drive someone to hate their own kind enough to want to escape to a world without them. She pulled the girl tighter into her arms and pressed a kiss to her temple. "Then we will. We must!"
