How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

Notes & Rules

No, fills do not need to be exactly three sentences! It's more of a guideline. Please abuse grammar and punctuation as much as desired.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

A Dreamwidth account is not needed to participate. Anonymous prompts/fills are welcome, or you can use Open ID.

She'd been wearing her mother's frumpy hand-me-downs since age twelve, when she'd long outgrown the childrens' section and never even got a chance at the cool kids' clothes in the teen section. She'd been pushed around by the boys, utterly banished by the girls, until at age 16 she stood at the height of an adult and the width (they sneered) of a dump truck, as alone and bewildered as a wild Diablo among ducks.

So she started lifting weights, and taking kickboxing, and discovered - if not a talent, precisely, at least an interest; two years later she was scouted, and moved to Midgar. SOLDIER training was grueling, but when she finally made Third Class and General Sephiroth himself said the way she cleaved her sword through that dragon's neck was as graceful as a swan's wing, SOLDIER Marie-Rose Cygne counted it all worth it.

She would answer him, but the winds are wrong, the waters dead, and everything she can say is gone; the name she had was too big for this body’s flesh tongue and bone teeth, too slow and many-voiced, and all those voices, he ate.

She copies his mouth sounds instead, John and hell, and he laughs until water leaks from his eyes; she touches it, lifts her awkward fingers to her lips, and tastes enough of the ocean in his salt that she cannot hate him more than she loves him still – but whatever small babbling collection of syllables he decides to give her, it won’t be a gift she keeps.

Lucy didn't try to pretend to be solemn, like her siblings sometimes tried before the Lady, and skipped over to plop down besides the hearth fire. She took a deep breath and smelled the crackle of firewood, but also the Lady's scent of spices and herbs. Lucy loved sitting besides the Lady like this; it was as cozy as sitting in a kitchen when someone made the best tasting food in your life, that would warm you all the way to your toes, and leave you with the sweetest feelings of love and care.

She hoped the Lady liked her just as much as she laid her head in the Lady's lap. Of course, if she had asked, the Lady would have laughed and said of course she did--she was, after all Hestia of the Hearth, the protector of the home and all how dwelt inside, and how could she not love all of her children?

The teachers kept us inside two whole days, and they read stories and assigned chores and did everything to avoid talking about it, but we all knew the Shinra robots were out there attacking everything that moved and the mercs were fighting and getting hurt trying to keep them away from the houses. When we were finally allowed out again, a lot of the grownups' stuff was dented or knocked down, but our hideout was just wrecked.

That's why Shinra sucks, and why every time one of those guys in suits comes down here, he's not allowed to go back up before we steal his wallet.

The cream had curdled — that tended to happen when Cook did the milking, for some reason the cows were unsettled around Minotaurs — so Susan chucked an extra sugar cube at Edmund’s forehead instead.

“I already told you that you are my favorite gift from Father Christmas,” she repeated patiently, “and fact that is not nullified by your behavior — but honestly, Edmund, you could have brought enough Narrowhaven coffee for the rest of us, you know the Calormene blend is too bitter.”
