How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

No, fills do not need to be exactly three sentences! It's more of a guideline. Please abuse grammar and punctuation as much as desired.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

A Dreamwidth account is not needed to participate. Anonymous prompts/fills are welcome, or you can use Open ID.

this ended up two sentences oops.

The dress is the height of western fashion, sleeveless with no waistline, its yellow bodice and pleated black skirt a perfect match for the jacket Bai Youning loves so much.

Her father would buy her that and more, but it’s a matter of pride: she sets money aside from her first salary and starts counting the days.

Necessary Revolution (Captain Harlock; Harlock/Yama)

"I should feel guilty," Yama said, frowning slightly, fingers splayed on the window, "it was my actions that . . . I'm the one who spoke, who gave the broadcast that brought all this down."

He took a breath as Harlock's arms slid around his waist, leaning backwards against his lover, closing his eyes and shutting out the sight of the scrambling mess of ships and humanity below.

"I am pleased if you do not," Harlock said, tightening his embrace just a little, "it was not all your doing . . . and a pretty lie to content themselves with as they die is not better than this; the Gaia Coalition was . . . playing out a debt that would eventually come due and hoping they could keep it forever at bay."

You are completely right, he does deserve his chance to fly! I love this, and I love how after watching all the others figure it out, he knows how to start and he takes his time and can get aloft first try. This is delightful, and I love Bertie as a dove.

OMG I love this! Frigga and Loki is a relationship I love and wish we got to see explored more in the films, and Sif making Loki clean up the rest of her hair is so, so good, even if she unknowingly makes him face the consequences of his prank. (And Loki being a simpy loser is the icing on the cake!) 🖤

"Hey, Shou, if mom decided to adopt Tobio-kun, would that make us siblings?", Natsu asked through a mouthful of noodles as the two of them sat at the dinner table, her question resulting in a groan from her brother's side.

"You've asked that about Kenma and Yachi too, you can't just adopt people who already have a family; that's illegal."

"Not fair," she grumbled, already making plans to get around that law somehow because it made no sense to her at all.

To Draco's credit, at least he does change his views; some Death Eaters would have rather shunned the kid than question their bigotry. Too often prejudiced people hang onto their hatred even when it hurts those closest to them.

Thank you. I do believe Draco can be a better person, but it would take a lot of growth from him and he's not exactly good at owning his mistakes. Not unlike many people in the "real" world, sadly.

At nightfall she poured a libation on the pyre but Midas clapped hands upon its stonework ere Zeus received this benediction. “Be cursed as we are,” he cried in despair, gold shining like their daughter’s memory, gold less valued than their son’s life, gold that rose above the yawning knit in the earth but left in their hearts.

I think it's thanks to a combination of factors. It helps that Obi-Wan can actually focus on Anakin instead of "heavily pregnant civilian in mortal danger", so he can see the tiny spark of Anakin buried deep inside Vader. Him not being willing to kill Anakin is also very Jedi; he's not killing an enemy unless he has to, which, in canon, is a part of why he leaves Anakin/Vader to burn, but here, it means he's determined to bring him back or die trying. There is also a part of Obi-Wan that still loves Anakin, and killing him would devastate him despite the circumstances; but if he's not killing Vader, then bringing him back to the Light is pretty much his only available option and Obi-Wan recognizes that.

Too late Peter realizes that mentioning their shared past was a mistake, that more than ten years of separation had changed his beloved Prince in ways he couldn't even hope to predict; Friedrich's eyes - once bright and curious, desperate and defiant in turns - are guarded now, and sharp. Yes, Friedrich had remembered him and called him home from his exile, but even so, Peter is part of a past Friedrich doesn't much care to acknowledge these days.

After a while, Peter even understands the impulse, the vulnerability involved for a newly crowned King, but as he sits at home, unable to be helpful because Friedrich won't let him, he can't help thinking that the ban cast over them by the old King still lives on, even if the man who had spoken it had finally died.

The invitation to accompany Friedrich on his incognito trip to the Netherlands comes as a surprise: after years of being ignored, Peter hadn't dared to hope for anything anymore, had tried - and mostly succeeded - to be content with the life he had and not feel stung by Friedrich's rejection.

When he realizes where they are going, eerily close to the harried route he took a lifetime ago, he isn't sure if he cares for the re-enactment - nor if Friedrich, who is distant and cordial and brusque in seemingly unpredictable patterns, understands that this is what they are doing to begin with: retreading Peter's past, which should have been Friedrich's too and never got to be.

Travelling incognito on the other hand, without pursuers on their tail this time, is also an unexpected chance: the intimacy of their small party and the lack of etiquette required let him witness Friedrich closer than he has since they were young men, exchanging books and warmth during stolen moments, and he begins to see the beleaguered roads and fortified borders that led from the Friedrich of old to the King of now, suspicious and complicated and thorny, but still craving for things to feed both his mind and his heart.

"We were foolish," Friedrich says one evening, staring into the warm fire at the local guesthouse they've settled in, still playing the parts of travelling noblemen. Peter just looks at him covertly for a moment, contemplating the memory of years of quiet hurt, unwittingly conjured up by Friedrich's words; times when his feelings of loyalty and affection had felt like a burden instead of a choice. Friedrich isn't wrong: they were, undoubtedly, foolish back then, and Katte, just as foolish, payed for it with his head - but it weren't their hands who signed the death warrant and Peter is done pretending otherwise.

In retrospect, Peter knows that out of the three of them, he himself had gotten the best outcome, despite the terrifying uncertainty and guilt of the first months and the ten years of exile and loneliness that followed. He'd at least found his own kind of freedom in the end, learning and travelling, until his new King had called him home. Maybe that's why he can look back at the past much more easily than Friedrich, be more forgiving of his young self, so in love and ready to do anything his Prince needed: unlike Friedrich, he didn't have to stay in invisible chains for ten years, didn't have to watch Katte die and bend to a father determined to break him.

"We were young and desperate," he says, straightforward as he still can't help but be sometimes, "but we are free now, Sire." It's a gamble he didn't think himself capable of anymore, a foolish one maybe, but when Friedrich's head snaps up and he looks surprised instead of angry, Peter holds his gaze and ignores the trembling of his own hands and the quick beat of his heart. "We are, aren't we," Friedrich says, still sounding surprised, and then he laughs, quietly at first and then louder, reaching out to squeeze Peter's hand, eyes bright.
