How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

I really like this! Jamie being used to being celebrated but not comforted is very in character and the sincere compliments are fairly new to him too. This was very sweet and gave me a lot of feelings.

Oh, I love this slow realization and the way Rebecca realizes what she wants. The gradual development and how Ted let her figure out herself, even when he was aware of his own feelings, felt in character for them both. Just all around lovely. :D

I love everything about this. Aww at Joan not feeling complete and constantly thinking of Sherlock when he's gone. That just made melt, as did them falling back into a routine together and her feeling like home again.

Smiles of No Substance (Boys Over Flowers; Yi Jung)

Yi Jung smiled as he bowed shallowly over a slender, graceful, delicately-manicured hand, drawing the girl close and tucking her hand in the crook of his elbow. It was easy, thoughtless . . . incredibly dull, to show her around the museum, to charm her, to respond to her own practised conversation. Yi Jung smiled and danced the familiar pattern without even the enjoyment that a passing game of fancy would have elicited, fingers flexing, wishing for something real to sink into, to be absorbed by.

Things Hidden (Naruto; Mito)

Mito's fingers curled too-tight around her brush, but she finished her strokes with elegant precision as always, and set it aside it with easy grace.

"You know what is expected of you," her father said from the doorway, and Mito smiled, precise and empty as the sky over the sea outside; hiding poison and vicious edges just as the sea beneath, "Mito-chan. You will do your duty. The Senju will be here on the morrow."

"I have always known," Mito said, letting the fury at Mito-chan, as though she were still a girl; as though she had been allowed to be a girl for years, slide beneath the surface with her poison and blades, "and I have always done so.

Aravis wiped her slender blade against the dark fabric of her trousers, smiling as she bent over the crumpled form of Ahoshta Tarkaan; leaning in, she whispered into his ear, “Now you will never force yourself upon a young girl again, Ahoshta,” and she pulled down the front of her veil to reveal herself to him.

His eyes widened, and Aravis placed her finger over his lips, adding, “Calling for help would be unwise; there is nothing that can now be done for you, and Tash, may he curse you eternally and darken your eyes forever, does not look kindly upon cowards and cravens, nor do I,” she warned, “so if you would like for your death to not become any more painful, you will not make a sound.”

She rose, watching as death took its hold of him, and as she turned to leave, she heard the soft tinkling of bracelets, and she saw in the shadows, half-hidden behind the curtains, the wide eyes of Ahoshta’s young wife; Aravis nodded to her, whispering, “Go now; you are free of him,” and the girl vanished in a rustle of silk, and Aravis replaced her veil and melted into the shadows.

Chores (Naruto; Tobirama & Touka)

"I am a ninja," Touka sulked, her shoulders thumping against the doorframe as she leaned in it, "I should not have to wash the dishes."

"And for so long as you are content to eat burned whatever-you-catch off a kunai," Tobirama said dryly, rinsing the last of the rice bowls and picking up a pair of chopsticks, "you are welcome to continue avoiding the task."

Touka hissed angrily and Tobirama arched an eyebrow, cutting a sharp look of his own at her; honestly, the expectation was not because she was a woman, it was because she at least pretended to be a self-sufficient adult.

Empty Beauty (Original)

They were beautiful, of course - everything he gifted her was beautiful. She reached up and touched one of the sparkling lilies, heavy and cold, that rested on her dark hair.

Beautiful and cold and lifeless; she looked in the mirror, meeting her own eyes - sparkling and empty - and wondered how long before she was just like everything else in his kingdom.

Revolution (Girl Genius; Agatha/Gil/Tarvek)

"That was always going to be the case," Tarvek said, not unsympathetically - in his own sharp, disdainful way, the one he saved for Gil, to Agatha's at-times confused amusement - and slid his hands over Gil's shoulders, "but if we do it right we can write it ourselves."

"And if we do it wrong all of Europa will want to eat our heads, boiled without butter." Gil said optimistically, cocking his head to one side, smiling a little; Agatha would never understand either of her boys, she thought wryly.

"Well," Agatha crossed her legs, swinging a 9/8 trilobite-tightener rhombus wrench from two fingers, "at least we'll be on familiar ground."

Fill

Even a full year after the not-so-accident, blinding rage will come upon Valerie in moments she's not prepared. Listening to Lancer read Hamlet aloud; hearing Star talk about frivolous purchases and expensive trips with people who won't look her in the eye anymore; patrolling a totally sleeping Amity Park, testing how high and how fast the hoverboard will go to keep herself awake; just walking to work and having to stop herself from zoning out for the four-hundredth time because she needs to keep conjugating Spanish verbs if she wants to pass the test tomorrow.

There's not enough time for all the anger, in-between the carefully penciled activities that will keep her on the track towards the rest of her life, because after all this time there's still nothing that looks like a way back to half of what she lost.

Regrets Belong to Another World (Labyrinth; Sarah, Toby (implied Jareth/Sarah))

"Sarah?" Toby says, perched in a high window, and Sarah lifts her head from the intricate chess game she has been supervising Jareth's favourite board play against itself. "Do you ever . . . ever regret it? The stuff - the world - we left behind, I mean." he clarifies, turning towards her.

Another world whirls through Sarah's memories and she holds perfectly still for a moment, as though part of her might spill out and be lost if she so much as breathed.

"No." she says simply, and hopes it is the truth, "I never even think of it." she says, and the truth is so malleable here that she smiles as she meets his eyes and he, every inch the princeling, returns it as he slouches lazily against the stone, a flick of his fingers conjuring silver butterflies that dive to harass the chess pieces and make Sarah laugh.

The strange domesticity that grows among them all (the original Party, plus the girls, the older teens, Joyce, and Hopper) is unusual in so many ways, not only from the perspective of those who might observe them from the outside (most of them unrelated, several of them actively disliking each other not very long ago) but also for many on the inside who are unused to having people around them who care and show it. Steve Harrington goes from eating meals alone unless he throws a party or has friends over for pizza to having standing invitations at the Byers and Henderson houses and kids that show up unprompted or harass him for rides and to feed them between driving them places. Jim Hopper has been alone for so long, but now he has people who check in on him, kids who look up to him as more than just the distant chief, and a little girl to take care of and he doesn't know what to think (but he's happy, so happy, and despite all the danger, so are all the others).

Flight to You

My daughter is a pilot and I really hate it, I want her to quit her job because I think it’s too dangerous but every time I bring it up, she gets very angry at me and we end up fighting. When she applied to university, I changed her application to try and stop her training to be a pilot but then my husband helped her get into pilot training anyway and I have never been at peace since - I don’t understand why both my daughter and my husband can’t see that I’m only trying to protect my daughter from this dangerous job. Recently my husband and I came to stay with my daughter at the house she rents and found out that she has bought a house for herself in the city where she works, so I tried to sell the house without her knowing to try and convince her to move back to our hometown and my daughter won’t speak to me, even my husband is mad at me - AITA?

Anakin sits down across from his fatherbrotherformer master and pushes a warm mug of rich tea over to him, settling its twin in his own hands.
"Take a break, Obi-Wan; you've been working for hours and you need to rest or else you'll collapse."
Obi-Wan looks up from his paperwork with bleary eyes and ruffled hair to see his brotherchildformer padawan looking at him with soft eyes, and his arguments about the urgency of his work all fade; maybe he can stand to take a short break.

“Have you not been branded enough of a fool, Rabadash? Surely you do not wish to heap more mockery upon yourself by pursuing such a foolish endeavor,” Aravis said, her lips curled in silent laughter as the prince prostrated even more deeply before her.

In a muffled voice, for his lips touched the carpet, he began, “O Tisroc, may you live forever, you greatly flatter me with your concern—”

“You are wrong, Rabadash,” Aravis interrupted, “I laugh at you, as does all of Tashbaan—indeed, all of Calormen, and so do Narnia and Telmar and all the wide lands beyond and over the sea, and they will continue to long after your bones have turned to dust in your grave, Rabadash the Ridiculous, laughingstock of the Calormene empire.”

Romantic Killer, Anzu/Tsukasa/Junta

(Oops I watched a new show and I still love this prompt)

Anzu is, obviously, the sun--fiery hair, helping the people around her grow, and hot enough to burn any person or scrap of food that wanders too close to her orbit. Tsukasa had been surprised he wasn't blinded by her, early on, though it had helped that he only caught brief glimpses until he'd been willing to reflect a little back to her in the comforting, lonely darkness of the rain.

It's only in the moments Anzu isn't around--a rarity until the hot summer days their work schedules don't quite align--that, doing dishes with a shirtless Junta, Tsukasa realizes that the boy gives off his own sort of warm light, easy to chat with (and the light shimmering off of the sweat drops on his broad, bare chest certainly doesn't hurt).
