This post will remain open for new prompts until we hit 4000 comments, at which point we'll open a new one to avoid captcha as long as possible. New fills and comments on fills will always be welcome.


How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

Notes & Rules

No, fills do not need to be exactly three sentences! It's more of a guideline. Please abuse grammar and punctuation as much as desired.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

A Dreamwidth account is not needed to participate. Anonymous prompts/fills are welcome, or you can use Open ID.

The table Peter is sitting at is so big, it would be more correct to say he’s sitting ON it, in a chair specially made for his size, a thimble filled with wine the perfect size for him to hold as the current speaker turns to him.

“I’m Peter,” he announces, ignoring the Giants’ chorus of “Hi Peter,” that follows.

“I’m here today because my siblings think I’ve taken too much on my shoulders and refuse to share or delegate the work because I have unresolved issues from my dad telling me to take care of the family when he went to war…”

In the years since the voyage, since the sea of light and flowers shifted and parted, since she can still see the face of the girl on the passing shadow, clearer than the waters around her. She looks back and wishes she had swam fast enough that she could have broken to the surface with a leap high enough to meet that girl on the strange shadow before it passed on, like a dolphin tasting the forbidden not-waters of thing the elders call air.

She didn't, however, and after the great shadow passed by, life went on. Each morning, she takes her school of fish out to the grottoes to graze and then does her chores for the day. Each night, she brings her school back to the safety of their paddock and eats the food allotted to her. But when the village goes to sleep, she escapes from the hut and swims past the limit that all the grannies warned her about, until her fingers could just brush the surface if she would reach.

And then, she dreams.

She dreams she did make the leap that day, that she jumped so high she landed clear in front of the girl, and that she had grabbed that girl by her shoulders, her face, her heart and reeled her in. She dreams that the girl on the shadow leapt down to her and that she caught the girl in her arms, that they went tumbling in flips, until she could catch that girl's mouth with her own. She dreams that she reached up and the girl reached down and somehow their hands bridged that impossible gap and they pulled each other neither into sea nor air, but into a world of only them. She dreams that, no matter how they meet, they both say "it's you! It's you! Oh, how I wanted to see only you!" and oh, how close they are, oh how warm each other's arms are, and oh, this is how it should have been and should be still-!

And then she wakes up.

She's stumbling, and so is he, and he doesn't know which of them is holding the other up or if they're both just trying and neither of them is actually doing much at all in the end.

"Well, that was fun," and her voice is breathless and there's a rasp that he knows means damage that will have her in the medic wing at least overnight and he sighs, crushes her hand tighter and tries to help them hobble closer to the stretchers waiting a safe distance from the ship.

"You really can't do that."

There's a hill he always climbs, and at the top are the remains of packing crates they weren't able to use in constructing the settlement; they're slowly turning into a pile of rust and scrap (and he wonders if the ships would have done this after a fashion if they hadn't driven everything into the sun).

Lee feels like the crates, sometimes, as he watches the children (that would never have been board on-ship, even with the laws Madame President handed down, there were ways to prevent them).

(and then his own will grab his hands and latch onto his legs and drag him down in a pile of laughter and glee that they won, and Lee will stop thinking about the gray in his hair and the loss of everyone he once held dear)
