This post will remain open for new prompts until we hit 4000 comments, at which point we'll open a new one to avoid captcha as long as possible. New fills and comments on fills will always be welcome.


How to Prompt

Prompts should be one prompt per comment, formatted in this way: fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence

Example: Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand

Prompts may also be open ended, unspecific, or anthropomorphic, such as:

any, any, I don't like sand
or
Earth geography, sand, I don't like humans very much, either

Prompts for relationships are welcome; a / is used for romantic/sexual relationships and an & for platonic. A prompt that uses both means the relationship can be written as either romantic or platonic, such as:

Star Wars, Anakin/&Obi-Wan, I don't like sand

Prompts may be repeated if they are unfilled; there is no obligation to read through every prompt to make sure yours isn't a repeat. This year's 3SF will stay open for new prompts through Sunday, February 12th.

How to Fill

Respond to your chosen prompt with a short fic of three sentences containing the fandom & characters requested!

Prompts can be filled more than once, as many times as someone has a new idea for them.

Notes & Rules

No, fills do not need to be exactly three sentences! It's more of a guideline. Please abuse grammar and punctuation as much as desired.

3SF is a Choose Not to Warn space. Spoiler and content warnings are not required, though writers are free to add them if they please. If you see something you don't like, just scroll until you do!

A Dreamwidth account is not needed to participate. Anonymous prompts/fills are welcome, or you can use Open ID.

Cross-posting is encouraged; there is a 3SF Collection on AO3 if you'd like to post fills there as well.

Pain is fleeting, temporary; even it's own brand of pleasant as long as it's him inflicting it - his capable hands, his determined grip around the whip handle as if he needs a moment to convince himself of what he wants to do.

He traces the tip lightly over your skin, before flicking his wrist once as a warning - it stings, then fades to nothing before you've had time to process what he could do if he chose to hit with his full strength.

The thought makes you suppress a shiver, your resolve faltering as he places a hand under your chin; nails digging into your skin as he forces you to look into his eyes.

Red, burning with equal amounts of hatred and lust.

"I wanna hurt you", he rasps, as if it took everything within him to admit that much; his hand suddenly letting go of your chin just to slap you hard in the face. Once, twice; hard enough for you to feel the taste of blood dripping from a cut on your lip.

"I wanna hurt you", he repeats darkly. "I wanna hurt you just to hear you screaming my name."

Your lips curve into a smirk at that; as provocative as it's icy.

"Go on, then," you challenge him, poison dripping from your words and mingling with the blood from your lip.

"I don't want to break these chains."

This dream tastes like copper, like a whiskey haze, like rotgut tears... but it is almost tender, almost kind, and he clings to it, because he doesn't have much: rage and barbed wire, skin and rust, bullet holes and fire, sweet thick smoke and shared breaths, words and lies and beautiful ghosts, and little wounds that never stop hurting and always open again come morning.

And it is not enough, never enough, because the world has gone wrong again, and his heart might as well be another useless, brittle bone, the way it shatters, turns to splinters and dust, and then, an empty space.

He didn't think it possible, but he is still able to feel something: splinters, maybe, or gunpowder, or ashes, or pain... or maybe it is just a trick of the light, and he is truly gone, and these are just tears.

I knew a Fallen London fill for this prompt would not be postponed indefinitely. This is beautifully creepy, which is exactly as it should be, and I love the stark simplicity of the last three parentheticals.

"Water and light," Mr. Tumnus answered, "though sometimes during the revels they sample Lord Bacchus's wine -- I'm told he can conjure a special vintage for them, fermented from moonbeams alone with no need of vines or grapes to convert that light to substance."

Lucy tipped her head back to gaze at the moon, its waxing circle edging near to full, and imagined how the silver of its light would taste between her teeth, sweet and crisp and sharp, and how its juice might roll cool and brilliant down her throat.
